Gaylord Air Fair June 23rd-24th

If you're around the Gaylord area this weekend, head on out to the Gaylord Regional Airport at Van Tyle and Dickerson Road for the second annual Gaylord Air Fair.

The family oriented Air Fair presents Northern Michigan with an opportunity to see both vintage and modern war planes including a B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-25 Mitchell, a P-51 Mustang and U.S. Navy F-18 Hornets along with several other aircraft.

Since I'm a retired Coastie, I'm especially looking forward to the Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City HH-65C helicopter rescue demonstration on Saturday.

Saturdays Schedule:
10:00 a.m. Red, White, and Blue Tribute Jump by Sky Dive Harbor Springs
10:30 a.m. Arrival and Fly-by of P-51, F4U, and Zero
11:00 a.m. Arrival and Fly-by of U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornet
12:00 – 2:00 p.m. General Aviation Fly-bys
2:00 p.m. U.S. Coast Guard Aerial Rescue Demonstration
3:00 p.m. Torco Racing Fuels Dragster “Light Up”
3:30 - 4:30 p.m. General Aviation Fly-bys

Sundays Schedule:
8:00—2:00 p.m. Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Fly-In Breakfast - Breakfast is $5/person, $3 for kids 12 and under
8:00— 2:00 p.m. Free Young Eagles Flights - Free front seat flights for kids 8—17 years old

Admission is $15 per carload or $5 per person

The two day event is designed to raise awareness of aviation in the community, provide an opportunity for young and old to connect with living pieces of history, and promote learning to fly. The proceeds will be used to support the National Guard Family Fund (which provides emergency assistance to families of deployed Guard soldiers and airmen), the Gaylord EEA Chapter, and future Air Fairs.

More information about the Air Fair can be found at the Gaylord Air Fair website.
