Marine Corps Marathon Training

Well, the humidity held out today. I wasn't able to run until 5pm this afternoon, but ran pretty well. The training had me run 14 miles today. The heat and humidity is supposed to start coming back tomorrow. We're expecting temps in the mid 90's with humidity just as high. There were quite a few people on the WO&D trail today, I suppose they all were taking advantage of the weather as well.

During the week, I run through my neighborhood. Tomorrow is a rest day. (Thank goodness)

Craig, good luck in the Marine Corps Marathon. I'm training for the Denver Marathon in October.

Thanks Leon, good luck to you in the Denver Marathon. How's the training going?

Hey Craig,

Good luck in your marathon. I can't even begin to imagine training in that type of humidity. Do they still refer to the MC Marathon as "running through the monuments"? I tried for 3 years to register for that one, it's always seems to fill up immediately. In 200 my sister and I finally made it, we were registered. Although (now I'm sorry to say) we did make it right after 9/11, we decided to stay home. I think that was my last chance, there is no way I would be up for it now.

My last marathon was L.A. in March, it included lot's of walking for me this time. Three weeks ago I was at the Rock-n-Roll in San Diego, it was beautiful. Both of my sisters did it that day, I crewed, my friend and fellow rainer, Marlene Bridges and I were "banana" girls on our bikes during the race.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!Btw, welcome to active rain!

Thanks for the welcome Lynda! Is it that obvious I'm new? :-)

It's amazing how the heat and the humidity affects your stamina. Yes, they do still refer to the MCM as running through the monuments. They also refer to it as the People's Marathon. I bet you could still do it!

That's right, they just has the Rock-n-Roll in San Diego. My wife and I love San Diego. It's an interesting city and the weather is fantastic. There's a Rock-n-Roll half marathon in Virginia Beach I'm thinking about signing up for. It's over Labor Day weekend. Either that or the Army ten-miler in October. I need the "race" experience. This is my first marathon.

I'll let you know how things go.

Thanks, Craig. The training is going well. I just got back from a late night walk. I'm adding a lot of walking to build up my aerobic base. I'll also do a lot of work on the elliptical at the gym.

Hi Craig,

Thanks for the nice response. And no, it wasn't obvious at all that you were/are new. I just didn't remember seeing your name before...after a while you see a lot of the same names around on the rain. I took a quick look at your bio and determined you were new by the number of points,  that's all. It really doesn't make any difference at all, because we all were new at one time. I just wanted to be inclusive.

You're right about San Diego, it's one of my favorite places, about 1 1/2 hours south of me in OC. They have a wonderful 1/2 marathon every August, it was my first about 12-13 years ago. The course is amazing, I've done it with my sisters about 5 times. The Rock-n-Roll in S.D. has been around for 10 years and yes I think they have 4 others in the U.S. I didn't know about VA but I think AZ and Nashville are two of the others.

Good luck in your training and see you around the rain.
