I had the opportunity to travel through Andover and Anoka today, heading to Ramsey, Minnesota to pick up a real estate yard sign. The drive through Anoka County was beautiful and I was struck by how much has changed in my life since moving to our home in Ham Lake ten years a
go. Our lives have changed significantly right along with the landscape.
At the corner of Bunker Lake and Hanson, I noted how much development had progressed. It was amazing that the once car graveyard/auto parts place that was an eyesore on the corner had been transformed into a storage area. As I headed west down the road, I noted new Andover Target that seemed to pop up from nowhere next to the Festival Store. As a Realtor working in the north metro Twin Cities, I know there are many short cuts through Ham Lake and Andover. I usually stick to Crosstown rather than going up Bunker Lake Boulevard, so we hadn't noticed these stores that have been around for awhile.
About this time, I remembered my cell phone that was charging on my counter at home.
Funny. When we moved up north from the city, we owned one cell phone and had it for emergencies. If it was forgotten at home, no one thought about it twice. Now, I had to tell myself to relax and enjoy our trip without answering the ringing phone. I do have voicemail after all!
So I had the opportunity to admire the countryside as I drove to pick up the new sign. After installing the sign at my new listing in Blaine, (It's a townhome; no big post signs allowed here!), we headed back to our acreage in Ham Lake.
It is amazing how quickly our communities and lives change. Blink and you will miss it!
**Photos are of our home. The first is 10 years ago and second is from Spring 2007...notice the size of the pine trees we planted 10 years ago...I had to take the photo from an angle to see the porch now...And yes the snow HAS melted!

Aww...isn't it nice to go back and see the old house? That's growth (pine trees) and change is inevitable.
Time does go quickly... We moved into our current home the day my oldest son started kindergarten and he is now 28. I was sitting out on the deck I built in '88 remembering how we baked in the sun at our first picnic. Now a big tree shades half the area.
It is amazing how quickly time goes by - when I graduated from La Pine Highschool - the first class to graduate since 1963 in La Pine (between 1963 and 1981 our students were bussed to Bend 35 miles one way) we had 36 kids in our graduating class - this year they had a class of 154 and 139 graduated. 26 years and we are still growing - amazing
glad you had a little peace without your cell phone :)
Sally--I see it everytime I drive up the driveway as we still are at this house!
I am amazed that in 10 years so much has changed in the surrounding area...Development is all around and if you travel the same back roads you miss out on all of the changes. I just happen to have photos of our home from the first year and added the ten years later shot...Hard to show the dramatic changes in other parts of the county as I don't have pics!
Thanks for commenting!
Dan--Sometimes it just hits you that time is flying by, doesn't it?
Thesa--Sounds like they are growing by leaps and bounds. Hopefully it is adding to the community and not detracting from the beauty!
Regarding the cell phone...I was a bit panicked without it. Had to force myself to relax and enjoy the drive!
I am just amazed at how much downtown Andover has changed!
Cory--It is like a totally different area than when we moved here 10 years ago...All in the past 5 years! Amazing!
