It's Time For Corn Dogs and Cotton Candy!

I remember growing up in Vallejo and begging my parents to take us to the fair. I loved the rides and food. It was always a fun place to hang out with friends (boys), and have a good time. My brothers actually worked with the carnies one year; but that's another story....

The Solano County Fair is almost here! Coming to the Solano County Fairgrounds, 900 Fairgrounds Drive, Vallejo, CA on July 11th through the 15th. The racing schedule can be viewed via the Horse Racing Board web site.

The entertainment lineup looks really good this year:

  • Kool & The Gang
  • War with Malo & Tierra
  • The Stylistics & the Manhattans
  • Kenny Loggins
  • Industria de Amor

There's also a great variety of other events which include:

  • V Town Motorcycle Scramble Chanpionship
  • Xtremly Amped Freestyle Moto-X
  • Lucha Libre Mexicana WPW Wrestling
  • Mini Stock Commuter Enduro
  • Demolition Derby

My favorite part of the fair these days is in the floriculture department. They give us flower arrangers the opportunity to be creative and display our arrangements. We're given a theme to follow and then they are judged. Last year I actually won best in show for one of the entry periods. Wow, was I surprised! This year there are two entry periods as the fair is only here for just about a week. If anyone is interested in more information about the entries for flower arrangemernts, just let me know.

The fair also has the rodeo, livestock, fine arts and youth areas to enjoy. There is something for everyone in the family. So come on down an enjoy the festivities!

I don't know why, but even as a kid the county fair did nothing for me, nor did the cotton candy. Now that I am older, I stay away from the corn dogs too!!!!

Thanks for your comment,  I have been missing from active rain for quite some time and am just getting back in the swing of things. Sorry for the late response.  I have a feeling that there are many people out there with the same sentiments as fair attendance has been going down every year and even the time it runs has started to decrease now as well.  Must be a sure sign.  Thanks again.

There are more people than ever at the Texas State Fair in Dallas these days. At least it seems that way due to the crowds. More people is not always better though. I vowed I wouldn't be going back anytime soon the last time I went because I couldn't get into any of the buildings or events due to high volume of visitors. I really don't do well in a crowd either though. I would probably enjoy a country fair more to tell you the truth!

Shellee it's nice to get another point of view here.  I have always enjoyed our Sacramento State Fair much more than our local county fair as there was so much more to see.  It's really an awesome event.  Fantastic entertainment and huge buildings with lots of interesting displays.  There really is something for everybody!  Crowds don't bother me at all, it just makes for more people to enjoy.  Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting.

eww not me.. I am claustrophobic to the point of terror in a huge crowd. I just always am so sure something terrible will happen. I even try to shop at times when there arent too many people out because i am so easily irritated by others. I go to the Book Store a lot but not on the weekends because I find the crowd to much to handle when I am trying to read or browse for selections!

Oh my gosh, you would've been in shock last nite if you were in the city with me, and my daughter.  We went to Union Square in San Francisco last nite to look for a homecoming dress.  You wouldn't believe how busy it was on a Monday night.  I was fine with it and the traffic, but my daughter was in heaven.  She was so delighted with the crowds and excitement in the air.  When it got dark and the lights were shimmering and sparkling in the moonlight she got even more excited and declared she would love to live in the city.  I had a good time, but I do enjoy getting back to my quiet neighborhood for a little peace and quiet.  Enjoy your day Shellee.

Corn Dogs, oh yeah, bring it on. The Arizona State Fair begins in a week as well, thanks for reminding me of that fact.
