Faith, Traditions and Beliefs
I read a recent article in the Kansas City Star on "Professing and Practicing are not the same thing" and I was taken back by some of the statements and comments reflected in this article. Here are some of the statisitics given in the article.
- Eighty-three percent of those in the study stated identified themselves as Christians, yet only 49 percent were committed to Christianity.
- Sixty-six percent believe God is all-powerful, all-knowing perfect creator of the universe.
- Twenty-five percent believe Satan is a real spiritual being.
But here's the one that took me back, two-thirds surveyed said they believed Jesus sinned or weren't sure! Hello, how can you believe Jesus sinned? Jesus is the Son of God Almighty. He came to earth to teach and show us how to live a life acceptable to God. Jesus was the perfect man!
The article goes on to say that believers feel personally committed to God, yet they are renegotiating the definition of the deity!? Why do we think we can negotiate with God? We are not His equal!
Is it that they think they can justify our standards and live a life we want? Are we looking for an acceptance to eternity based upon our standards? Maybe we should read Revelations again!
I was brought up to believe that the Bible was the infallable Word of the Lord! What is written in the Bible is the divine Word of God and that IF we believe in His Word, confess our sins, live our lives for His glory, share His Word to others and obey Him, then we will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned, that's okay! I just want to do my part with the time He has given me and be a light for His Glory!
I just don't accept the reasoning that Jesus sinned! Maybe you could shed some light on this subject. Or maybe you just want to stay in the shadows. I guess that's what I might have done in the past, but I don't want to do that anymore. Thank you for allowing me to share this sensitive topic.

Hi David,
A lot has to do with what young people are learning or not learning. I have a friend working with a college ministry that is devoted to working with the transition time from high school to college. That statistic is 75 - 80% leave the church after high school.
People are not being taught the truth. You can't stand up for what you believe or know what you believe if you don't know the truth.
Doreen, I believe you are so very right. My wife and I have walked the talk and worked hard to teach our two young adults now, what it means to put your faith and trust in our heavenly father. We experienced their move from high school to their adult lives and have seen them make valuable choices that will make a difference for the rest of their lives. We are ever so thankful they have committed their lives and are following in His footsteps. But, I do believe this is the exception. Many leave, some return, but it is our responsibility as the parents to lead and teach them. The church should add to our example, not replace it.
You preach it, Dave...the truth stays the truth even if people hide from it..........
WRONG.....Gods kingdom is NOT a democracy......... He won't change the rules about sin just because a LOT of people are doing it...... or it is popular.......
=-/
Yes, Yes, what he said!^ It is very easy to get sucked in, too, if you don't stay close to the Lord. (guilty :( )
I've had the 'yes, Satan is real, I've seen him' discussion with many, they continue to believe he is a myth. Of course, he loves that, makes his job easier.
the word below is salsify, does that mean to make something hot? fitting.
Alexander, it's not a popularity contest for sure. God's word says that it is easier for a camel to go thru the eye of an needle than a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. God's word has stood the test of time, and He has not waivered on any of His words over the course of time. He is the solid rock!
Doreen, Satan just keeps on deceiving by his cunning and twisted ways. Yes, he will do anything within his power to fool, falsify and destroy those that will let him do so. We must be vigilant in our endeavors to stand strong and with the Lord, we Win!
The only thing I'm sure of is that Jesus is God's son, my Lord and Saviour. Oh, I guess I'm also sure that I fall short on a daily basis so I'm thankful he is who he was, er, is.
David - The problem is, that statistic is based on society definitions of 'Christian'. Actually, less than 6% of society are Evangelical Christians - in other words, they believe in the God of Abraham, they believe that Jesus Christ is the Way the Truth and the Light. They believe there is a heaven and a hell. They believe that unless you are saved by faith, you are doomed to eternal damnation.
Societal stats really mean nothing because too many people think that if they are not Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist or Hindu than they are 'Christian'.
What's even sadder are the children (as someone else mentioned) that believers are allowing to get away. From raising them so secularized and not pillars in their faith and values we are losing the next generation to the devil. It's so important for us to be missionaries to other nations yet lose our own.
Chris, agreed!
Christina, missions need to start here in the USA! We need to stand up for the truth and make it known that there are values we should follow! Thanks for sharing your views!
David I agree with you 100%. There is a lot of confussion amongst beleivers. The Sunday school lesson I started reading today in the Bible Expositor is related this topic. It's titled "No Other Gospel", and it warns against people abusing the Inspired Word of God. Many people take the text and add there own meanings and try to form a ministry on twisted notions which only leads people to stray away from the Truth or never really get the point at all. So we need to be careful who is leading us, make sure we are in a Church to preaches the Gospel and read the whole Bible for yourself this way you will less likely to be led astray by deceptive practices.
Treci, couldn't agree more! It is up to us to decide, we shouldn't let others decide for us. Read His Word, seek understanding, pray, get more than one opinion and decide for yourself! Thanks for commenting!
