It seems Olathe, Kansas has made it's mark as the City of Champions on eBay for sports purchases.
eBay discovered that Olathe, Kansas topped all cities in buying sporting goods and memorabilia. Purchases were made at $196,481 with nearly 4,000 items purchased during the past three months. The most expensive item purchased was a 1931-32 Reach Yankees baseball for $4,650. Other items purchased were an Alex Gordon rookie baseball, a Michael Jordon Master Collection and a set of Callaway x20 tour irons by Olathe, Kansas residents.
Of the items purchased, trading cards worth $33,000, almost $80,000 in golf equipment and $14,000 on autographs were made in Olathe, Kansas. When I first looked at the items purchased, it seemed baseball was at the top of the list. With the Royals having a better year than in many previous years, this seemed a bit odd. Kansas City has two teams, the Royals and the T-Bones.
The Royals have been experiencing a great deal of success over the past few weeks and most of us in Kansas City look forward to hearing positive results from them. But probably the most entertaining baseball in Kansas City, is the T-Bones, a minor league team. The cost to watch one of these games can range from $7 dollars on up, but what a bargain! Seats are available and a full view of the game can be seen from the walkway in the outfield surrounding the field or from the first or third base dugout seats. It's really a blast to see one of the T-Bones games.
The real surprise in eBay purchases was $80,000 in golf equipment. Olathe, Kansas and Johnson County has some really fantastic golf courses in the area, but I didn't realize that eBay would be the place where equipment purchases would be made with so many great golf stores available. Then there are so many great golf courses here in Johnson County; Prairie Highlands, Sycamore Ridge, in Olathe, Kansas, and Falcon Ridge and Deer Creek in Overland Park, Kansas. Lots of other courses are available too.
Anyway, it seems that Olathe, Kansas has a flair for the sports minded, with baseball and golf as the most popular choices.
What is your city sports favorites! Where do they rate in your book?
