Monsoon season safety

The monsoon season is upon us. I wrote last week about the beginnings of the rain. Well, It is still happening. This year it seems a little different than last year. We are on our 4th day of afternoon rains that are steady rather than blasts and downpours.

Either way, everything is wet.

If you are travelling in this county it is important to be aware of the storms around you. It is to our advantage that the skies are big and often you can see the rain direction. The mountains capture the rain and send it down into the valley via washes. These washes can move very fast. Crossing them is not a smart thing to do, it is dangerous.

Street flooding is common also. There are signs posted "Do Not Enter When Flooded" . You would do well to heed these warnings. As a matter of fact ,if you get stuck in such an area and public services have to help you, a citation for stupid driver can be given and you have to pay for the services.

Lightening is also a concern, it is best to stay inside if you live in the flats or on top of a hill when these storms move through with lightening. Remember, you can often see them coming. Look for a few moments at the sky. Notice which direction the clouds are moving. Yes, they can switch direction (as I saw today), so be aware.

Personally I love all the excitement from these storms. A weather geek I guess.

Have a safe and groovy day!

peace,

MaryAnn
