Learning at the top of the Class - Olathe School District, Olathe, Kansas

The Olathe School District puts it's stamp on the our community and the lives of those who are work in the district, learn from the services provided by the district, and provide support to the district. I could be a bit prejudice, as my wife works in the district and my kids went to school in the district. However, this is one of the reasons why I can express my strong beliefs in the Olathe School District.

The Olathe School District, USD 233, serves students in a 75-square-mile area within the cities of Olathe, Overland Park, Lenexa and Shawnee a total of 26,000 students and 4,300 staff members. The Olathe School District currently has 31 elementary schools, eight junior high schools, and four senior high schools with more on the way! • More than 95 percent of students pursue post-secondary education
• 95.6 percent average attendance rate (2005-06)

• Average ACT composite score is 23.0 (2005-06)
• Average SAT verbal score is 612 and the math score is 611 (2005-06)

• State championships in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, swimming / diving, track and field, wrestling, forensics, mock trial, and scholar bowl competitions

The technology advancements at the Olathe schools are quite amazing. Handheld units and laptops are used for classroom homework, secured wireless internet access throughout the 75 mile district, and an alert system called Olathe Alert for immediate text messaging to be sent as awareness to parents and family. The Olathe Alert provides emergency information; school closings and administrative reminders (upcoming district wide events or breaks) are among the types of information available through this free service.

All in all, the Olathe School District is an excellent school district with state of the art technology and learning programs that compliment the community and give students a since of pride and spirit.
