The Columbus Zoo - A Feather in our fair city’s capJuly 20th, 2007 categories: About Me?, Columbus News
The Columbus Zoo continually is regarded as one of the best in the country. Additionally, with nearly 12,000 animals on over 90 acres, the Columbus Zoo is ranked in the top 10 best Zoos for Kids. Franklin County residents support the zoo through part of their propertty tax. But, On Wednesdays, Franklin county residents receive a 50% discount with photo ID. The Columbus Zoo is also open until 8pm on Wednesdays. Yesterday was a rainy-cloudy-warm day here in Columbus. Perfect for a trip to the Columbus Zoo. I packed it in early and we got to the Zoo around 4:00. They close at 6PM during the week in the summer but we had 2 solid hours of summer fun. Plus, they weren’t exactly kicking us out at 6:15 as we made our way to the exit. The rain had chased most of the crowds away and we practically had the Zoo to ourselves. That’s why, after I help you move to Columbus, you should have a family pass. You can go any time you want and enjoy just a portion of the zoo if that’s all you have time for. Two years ago, Bohdi the baby elephant helped the Columbus Zoo (and Aquarium as they like to be called) attract record numbers. Bohdi is quite the terrific toddler these days but we did see some baby flamingos, the orangutans were out and active, the kangaroos were hopping around and they had more Zoo educators hanging around the entrance with zoo animals for the kids to touch and learn about than I’d ever seen. From a baby Alligator to a couple horned lizards to a big Asian Turtle, a beautiful parrot (pictured above) and an American Kestrel. The kids loved this. |
