Homeschooling in NM

I have been homeschooling in NM for the last 9 years and overall, NM is very homeschool friendly. I take a very unschooling approach, so I may be missing some of the more traditional viewpoints. If you are homeschooling in NM and want to add anything, please feel free to leave a comment.

Here is my "(NOT) Back to School" Resources for the homeschoolers in NM.

Ashley - we take an unschooling approach to homeschooling too - but I think we're raising the future Donald Trumps (LOL) - actually they learn so much calculating commissions :-) as well as learning about general business, etc. You're a great resource for Albuquerque families - real estate, homeschooling and so much more.

Ashley - ditto what Cyndee wrote - I am the primary teacher in our home - she's the fun "substitute" and "field trip" mom - any surprise there? We really enjoy it. We live a homeschool friendly state too.

Ashley, Though I don't homeschool anymore I have great respect for those who do!  It's very important to provide excellent quality resources!  You do Albuquerque proud!!!!

Ashley--So many people consider homeschooling and have trouble finding good resources. What a great idea to post them for all those in New Mexico considering this option for education!

I do not think I had the patience to be a homeschooler - but certainly respect those that do.... great information to pass on... thanks for sharing

Cyndee - Our kids learn so much being with home with us. Natty's photo skills have really improved with the blogging!

Jack - I notice some of the states that use to have very restrictive laws have loosened up in the last few years. Good to hear FL is a good homeschool state as well.

Chris - It is important to have these resources and know where they are.

Teri - I know that if I was relocating the homeschool laws would be at the top of my concerns. I just want everyone to know that NM is a good place to live if you are homeschooling.

Thesa - I planned to homeschool from the time my oldest was a baby!

Ashley, kudos to you!  To take on this great task on top of your own business, you are such a great person.  This is fantastic information for Albuquerque partents who homeschool!

Ashley and all those who home school.............You rock! I never felt I had what it took to do so. This is great info for those who do home school in Albuquerque.

Wow, what a responsibility!  Just having kids is a huge responsiblity, but taking on educating them yourself too doubles it, at least.  I am impressed that you take the time to do it, especially with three of the

Leah - Thanks! I hope this helps anyone who is or thinking of homeschooling in ABQ.

Paula - for me I just was the only schooling plan that works for my family goals.

Joanne - the older two had been a challenge. But my youngest is more like I was and is self guided so I don't have to spend as much time with her on it.

Ashley, this is a growing trend.  It's very important that local homeowners have this information readily available when moving into your area.  There is certainly support in numbers...what a terrific tool!!

Susie - you are right homeschooling is a growing trend. It can be a very important issue when looking to relocate to a new state.

I didn't think I had the patience to homeschool either, so I had my boys in a private Christian school - one did well and graduated a couple of years ago, but the other just didn't thrive - so we gave it a shot and the difference in his personality was just unbelievable after he wasn't being forced into a box anymore!  He had always tested high, but grades didn't reflect it until he got to learn his way.  Georgia is a very easy state to homeschool in also, I even got permission to homeschool our foster child!  Excellent resource!

Michelle - I know my youngest daughter who has always been homeschooled would have been stifled in a traditional school. Her personality just shines through! Learning in a way that make sense is the important part. I was homeschooled for high school because I didn't fit in the box even after being given more freedom in the gifted program. I was left to do it the way that worked for me. When I took my GED test I ended up with the 4th highest score for the entire state all time. I just had to do it my way. I am glad to hear that so many states are easy for homeschooling families.

I am so proud of you for homeschooling. I am a homeschool veteran mom. I homeschooled 5 kids all the way through high school and now our 4 year old is in homeschool. My 18 year old daughter was accepted into Palm Beach Atlantic University at the age of 14. She is graduating with her B.A. when she is 19 1/2. Florida is a very homeschool friendly state. Katerina

Katerina  - Your daughter advanced well academically! I have heard from Cyndee as well about Florida being homeschool friendly as she and Jack are homeschooling their two boys.

I like to connect with Homeschoolers. Here in Wellington Florida we have a great support group and the kids get together to play during our monthly meetings. I read a comment about Cyndee homeschooling, that is why I reached out. Nice when you have that in common.  Katerina
