Salt Lake City's Cottonwood Mall to be transformed

Finally something will be done with Cottonwood Mall!  I don't visit there much anymore, but when I do I am saddened at how few people go there.  They are in such great location right on Highland Dr. but they just don't get the traffic like they used to. 

Well that will change in the near future.  Everything as you see it there now will be leveled to make way for a new mixed use development.  It will include retail businesses, office space, residential units, theaters, and restaurants over a 57 acre site.  The only store that will stay is the Macy's that is there now.  The designers will be Duany Plater-Zyberk & Co. and they intend to make "Cottonwood" a mix of historical Utah and Europe with walk-friendly landscape.  

I think this will do great things for for Holladay and Salt Lake as a whole.  The location where the mall now stands provides such nice views of the Wasatch mountains that an open air walkable development will be refreshing.  I can't wait until the work starts, which should be at the beginning of 2008.
