Madison County Kentucky Time Capsule

Madison County Kentucky Time Capsule

Where does time go??

This week I made a trip to the Madison County Court House to register my car and pick up tags. As I was walking on the sidewalk out front I stepped on the Time Capsule!

I had forgotten it was buried there. I can well remember the Madison County Bicentennial Celebration downtown along with a parade, games and booths all around the Court House in the summer of 1986.

I will have to do a bit of research to find out what was put inside. Maybe it is a mystery to be discovered in 2086. I don't believe I will be around to see it opened.

That same year my Dad had some new concrete poured at our Greyhound Station that was a few blocks away on the corner of 3rd & Water Streets. I grew up downtown and loved it. We had owned the station since 1956. I scratched my initials and the year to immortalize myself! Now I had my own time capsule.

It doesn't seem like it was that long ago, but I guess a lot has happened since then. Hard to believe 21 years have passed.

Lizette, I don't even know if we have a time capsule!  There was no way to find out what was in there?  Interesting find, no matter what it is.  Yes, time sure does go fast.  I hate to ask a stupid question, but is this where the Bridges of Madison County are?  I thought it might say in the link to the page, but I didn't see it....have a great weekend.

Lizette - how fun.... my grauating class burried a time capsule - I remember a few things in it... what is sad - is it was to be opened in 2031 - 50 years after our school had it's first graduating class.  But the school added on.... and they forgot about the time capsule - so it is now burried under the new gym.

there was a Styx tape in it.... our class song was "The Best of Times"

Carole- I am going to ask a few people that may know what is inside. I'll post it here when I find out. There may be someone that reads this here at Localism that will know and tell us. The bridge in the movie was in Iowa. We just have a wonderful ferry at Valley View that crosses the Kentucky River.

Thesa - I guess that time capsule is buried as well as Jimmy Hoffa!

Lizette, unreal, and so interesting.  I would love to know what is in the time capsule too.  And, your right, I will not be here to find out.  Now there is another blog to write about.  LOL  Great post, I enjoyed this one a lot.

Lizette, kewl blog.  EVEN cooler because you saved my b*% on this one. I had been so busy in the month of July (my birthday month) that for the first time EVER, i forgot to get my car registration renewed and buy my new sticker !!!!  When I read this blog of yours this morning , I said 'OOPS !!' , then rushed out the door and across town (fortunately they were open til noon today as I am going to my Mother's cottage this afternoon and my Dad and Stepmom's on Monday and both are over 40 minute drive away). Fines here are pretty hefty for driving with an outdated sticker.

THANK YOU,  ever so much.  I owe you.....

Jo

Lizette, Thank you, I should have known that or remembered it from the movie.  And look at what your blog created for Jo, what perfect timing!!  I took the ferry to get to Fire Island and forgot how much fun they can be!!

Hi Lizette...now you have us all curious!

Joan - I hope I can find out something soon. I am curious too!

Lizette,

I always learn something new, remember time flies !!! :)

I was lucky enough to carve my name in my the driveway of my FIRST HOUSE and date it back in November of 1990!  It's fun to go back and read our names that are still there.  We lived there for 10 years.  My 2nd house I was able to do the same thing.  THE BEST PART was having my son (now 13) carve his own name in our driveway after it was poured!!  I love the idea!!

Ray - Time really does fly. When I joined AR it had only 21,000 members!

Susie - It's great you got to do that. Sometimes it seems a little silly but later over time it reminds you of all the fun times you had there.

Lizette,

see? that's a proof that time flies :) LOL, I understand what you are telling and it is true, it is a matter to blink and see everything changed or different.
