Schools Earn Cash for Trash

Trash? Well, not exactly garbage but old ink cartridges for your printer(s) can earn your son or daughter's school a little bit of extra money. What an easy fund-raiser?!?!

You can call 1-888-99 REFILL to find a participating store nearest you. Or you can go to Cartridge World for more ideas on how this program works.

Did you know...

* It takes an entire gallon of oil to create a brand new laser cartridge

* In North America, there are over 350 million cartridges thrown in the trash yearly

* It can take up to 50 years for a single cartridge to decompose in a landfill...YES 50 YEARS!

Using Cartridge World can save the planet as well as make a few extra dollars for your local school. That's a great incentive all the way around!

Cool .. going green is the wave of the future .. don't you wish our politicians would do more about that .

    Susie,

As always you are right there providing us with great information once again! Thanks, I will check it out. :)

Maybe we should start by making all real estate transactions digital!

    Susie,

Great idea to recycle and help local schools at the same time.  Our local Walgreens now refills cartridges so I plan to try that out in the near future.  I like Joe's idea above as well!

Susie--Many Office Max stores will give a $3 instant rebate for bringing in an empty cartridge too. There is a limit per visit on the rebate. Donating "trash" to your neighborhood school is a great way for them to buy new supplies though! Good post!

We have a Cartridge World right here in Aggieland too, and my good friends and neighbors own it.  They contribute to churches and local schools as well!

Susie - Thanks for the info - I had no idea

Sounds like a great program, Susie! I'll have to check it out.

Susie, very cool post!  I take my used cartridges in to the local office supply and they exchange it for a ream of paper but if we could help the schools like in Brandon, that would be a better deal!

Susie - Glad to learn about more ways to Go Green - I'd like to add your article to my list of EcoFriendly Ideas - thanks for such a well done post.

Susie what a great way for the schools to raise cash. I have been recycling my cartridges as the office stores. Anyway we can keep trash out of the landfills is a good idea!

    John - If only...

Suzanne - Thanks my friend for stopping by!  It really is easy...

Joe - Love the idea!  NO MORE PAPERWORK...(literally)

    Rita - Walgreens rocks Rita!!

Teri - $3 works for YOU unless you want to give it to a local school.  Either way, NOT IN THE TRASH!!

Chris - That is so cool!!  I love the idea of donating to the school(s)!  They always need something.

Paula - Thanks for stopping by!  Check it out...every little bit helps!

Ilyce - Can you tell I'm a PTA parent?  I don't enjoy fundraisers but LOVE easy stuff like this!

Maggie - I agree!!  A ream of paper...a couple bucks for the school!  At least it's not going to take 50 YEARS to make it disappear!

    Cyndee - I would love that...THANKS!!

Ashley - You are RIGHT!  Anyway we can keep them out of the landfill is GOOOOD!!!

Susie, at RE/MAX we donate all the empty cartridges to The Childrens Miracle Network to help children.

Missy - THAT is a FABULOUS program!!  I wonder if that's all RE/MAX offices...

Super idea! I know Staples will give you a $3. off coupon on the purchase of your next ink cartridge if you bring in the used printer ink cartridges. Now Staples gets all mine-

Office Depot gives you free paper for the old ink cartridges - so it is a matter of what your needs are!

wow - this is a powerful message to those of us printing all those color flyers for flyer boxes :o)

Bill & Barbara Jo - As long as you're not tossing them I say GO FOR IT!!  Thanks for your input!

    Thesa - Yepper!

Hi Susie,  I love this fundraiser!  Great job letting the public know about the cash for trash program in Brandon FL!

Thanks so much for this post!  we never know what to do with them, so we get them piled up sometimes!  What a great tip!!  I will pass this along in my newsletter for others to know about it, but only with your permission of coarse!
