How Big Will Your Backyard Be?

One of the things new homeowners look forward to is having a yard to call their own. So I get a kick out of asking my clients this question: How big will your backyard be?

Some people tell me they want huge backyards so their kids can play with their pets. Some people want very tiny ones so they don’t have to mow the lawn.

So what do you want? Big, small, or medium? Can you imagine it? Will you have your barbecue grill next to the swing set? Or will the dog house be next to the fence?

And don’t forget to think about the pool. If the house you buy doesn’t have one, you might need room to put one in - if you want one. I know the kids will love it.

Take a few minutes talking about the things you want in your next house with your family. What things will make it a home? Maybe a closet by the main door for your shoes? What about a large window in the family room?

If you know what you want before you start looking, it makes it much easier to find the house you want. So do it now. Have fun with it. Dream.

Miss Ilyse, you're one smart cookie.  In all the years, I've never thought about selling the backyard, and you're exactly right....you can probably sell the backyard to mom's with children for $250,000 and they get the house thrown in for free.

Thanks for this...

Boy!  It's amazing the different answers I get to that one!  From a postage stamp to a bunch of acres with room for a pony!

All details need to be addressed...the more you know in the beginning, the bigger WOW you get when you find the right home!!

Its all part of trying to find out your clients needs in order to best serve them.

I often ask that very question and most people will say they want a nice sized back yard, my next question is where are you moving from? The reason I ask that is because some people live on a 25x40 lot and that is big to them and then some people live in area'a where the minmum size lot is 2 acrea so a nice sizes lot means something totally different.

I find that the fewer people that will live in the home the smaller the backyard they want...

Thanks to all of you who have commented so far. Everyone sees something different, don't they?
