Percy Quin State Park, Pike County, MSPercy Quin State Park in Pike County, Mississippi, is a beautiful 1700-acre park of rolling hills filled with loblolly pines and magnolia trees. The park was originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, and is named after a former U.S. representative from Mississippi. The Tangipahoa River empties into the lake.
There is a visitor's center with a game room and nearby large picnic sheds and a large playground. There is even a convention center for hosting large group activities. The large lake offers plenty of pleasure for fishermen, water-skiers, and boat riders. There is also a marina and plenty of good parking for boat trailers. You can rent a paddleboat, swim, picnic, bicycle, hike on a secluded trail around the lake, or camp in one of 160 campsites. There is a lodge, 22 cabins, and a primitive camping area "across the dam." There is also a group camping area across the lake with several cabins, a two-sided dormitory with a meeting/activity room, a swimming pool, an activities field, and a large pavilion.
Shortly after entering the park, you'll come upon Quail Hollow Golf Course, designed by Arthur Hills of Toledo. This 27-hole course was named one of the ten best golf courses built in 1997. On the site are a clubhouse with a casual restaurant, a cart barn, overnight conference cabins, and halfway house comfort stations.
Percy Quin State Park is located about six miles south of McComb, MS, off Interstate 55, exit 13. It is about an hour and forty-minute drive from New Orleans, and an hour and twenty minutes from Jackson, MS.
