Summit Medical Center, a new hospital in Summit County, Colorado

Our new hospital in Frisco, Colorado,  has been open for nearly two years now and not only does it offer great care, it has awesome views, a good array of services and some very nice people. Summit Medical Center Cheerful volunteers greet you at the information desk at the front of the lobby, with its huge fireplace and soaring ceiling.

Prior to December 7th, 2005, if you tore an ACL or broke a bone, you were taken  to the hospital in Vail.  If you had something life threatening, you were transported to Denver, either by ambulance or Flight for Life.   Today, Summit County has  a Level III Trauma center, which means that surgical, anesthesia and critical care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Medical Center has 25 beds in 95,000 square feet.   12 beds are for medical/surgical patients, 9 for maternity and 4 are for ICU.  There is a dedicated C-section suite in the labor/delivery department, and two state-of-the-art operating suites for inpatient surgery.  16 private treatment rooms are in the Emergency Room.  In the past, all we had available was the urgent care center in Frisco and the clinics at the base of each ski area.  We still lack any nursing home facility, with the closest one being in the foothills near Denver.  I hope that, as our population ages, someone will decide it is economically feasible and provide it too. Nicole, Will and Mason

Summit Medical Center still offers the Birthing Center, which they had together with the urgent care center in the past.  Nicole and Will's 2 year old Mason, seen here, was born at the birthing center right before the new hospital opened.

The Medical Center also has Cardiology, Critical Care, Emergency/Trauma, Lab Services, Medical/Surgical, Radiology/Imaging and Surgical Services.  No longer have to go to Denver for testing, diagnostics, or surgery.  They have state of the art equipment, and are currently raising funds to buy a digital mammograpy machine in addition to the standard equipment they have now.  The lobby area of the hospital

Flight for Life is still a large part of the services offered, and you often see the familiar orange helipcopters as they shuttle between Denver, Summit County, Pueblo and Colorado Springs.

One of our favorite clients, Dr Dhruv Pateder a spinal specialist, was just added to the staff as part of the Steadman Hawkins team of orthopedic specialists.

Both inpatient surgery and outpatient surgery are available here.  Inpatient surgery is done at the hospital and outpatient is done at the 10,000 sq ft Peak One Surgery Center, which is attached to the hospital, next to the medical building where the doctor's offices are.  So whether you need a mammogram, MRI, CT scan, ultrasound, a colonoscopy, an endoscopy, hysterectomy, gallbladder removal, or if you have a heart attack, broken leg, hip replacement or a stroke, Summit Medical Center will give you great care. It is so convenient to have all those services available locally, for residents and visitors alike, and know they you and your loved ones are in the best of hands.
