Baseball in Palm Beach Gardens

Today (August 25) was sign up day for youth baseball (T-Ball) in Palm Beach Gardens. I have to tell you, I do not know who was more excited my son (who is 5) or myself. The league office was ready for everyone and I have to inform you how easy the sign up went. I really thought it would be an all day event. We where in and out in under ten minutes.

When I first moved to Palm Beach Gardens ten years ago I volunteered as a manager/coach for this league and swore off volunteering again until I had a child ready for this league. Well today was the day I was more than happy to volunteer as a Coach (if they need me). It is so exciting to me to watch the games through the children's eyes.

While going to Florida State University in Tallahassee I was a volunteer at the YMCAwhere I coached Basketball and Football for the under privileged. This really showed me how fortunate I was growing up in Miami and having some great coaches when I played Baseball. I felt I owed it to these men who gave of their time to help me and show me what good coaching was about in Youth Sports.

As soon as we got back in the car my son started with the barrage of questions. Daddy what team will I be on? Daddy will you be my coach? Daddy when is my first practice? Daddy, Daddy, Daddy.....

It seems like only yesterday I was the one in the back seat of my fathers car asking him the same questions. Where does the time go?

Tom,  My son loves soccer I just don't know the sport that well.  It is fun to watch it through their eyes.

Hey Matt, how exciting!  They do a parade here on sign up days because little league is such a huge deal.  It's so cute watching all of the teams in their floats.  Keep us posted on how the team does this season!

Stephanie, That is a deal. I would like to see that parade maybe you can do a post one day so I can see.  It sounds like fun

Jay, Thank you.  I am just glad I have a job that allows me the time do be a coach.

Matt, I am sure you and your son will be making many memories as you continue the legacy.  Enjoy!

And what's wrong with the Mets?

Ahhhh... the excitement through the eyes of a child!  I am so with you on the excitement you feel for your son and with your son.  I still get excited every game my kids have and I think I look forward to it more than they do.  My son is a senior this year and has played football since he was 5.  He isn't playing this year and I am sooooo heartbroken.  He will be too one day, but for now getting out of school early and making money is more important to him!  Enjoy every moment!  The time goes by so quick and then you wish you could get it back!

Maggie, I think your right.  Nothing is wrong in your a mets fan..... I am not..:-)

Kim, I really try to enjoy him as much as I can.  It seems like yesterday we just took him home from the hospital.

Matt,

How cool, I remember when my son played T-ball ( 22 now) where does the time go? My hubby has always coached and I'm not sure who enjoys it more him or the kids. LOL! Enjoy :)

Suzanne, You have a son 22? WOW... Are you sure you are not from the south and Started when you where 10? :-) just kidding.  I feel the same way I don't know who will have more fun my son or myself.

Matt-Cherish these days.  My boys played baseball and those were some of the best times of my life!  My father also coached award winning city baseball and city football teams.  Let us know if you are coaching....

Midori, I really do cherish these days.  I will let you know if I am selected as a coach.

Enjoy every single moment with your son. One day he will be a teenager! :) and those questions are not going to be starting with DAD! The time does go by so fast. Don't you wish it could stand still when they are this age, just for a minute! This is the best age! Second family around I am much more about enjoying the moment! Katerina

I figured you were not a Mets fan...
