Clearwater Beach Florida 33767 | Not All is Jolley for our Beach Trolley

Sand Key - Clearwater Beach - Island Estates - 33767 Update

jolley trolley picking up passengers on Sand Key in Clearwater Beach FL 33767One of Clearwater Beaches moving landmarks is the Jolley Trolley's - these open aired Trolleys are a Fun and Economical way to get around on Clearwater Beach, Sand Key and Island Estates. This is a great service for Clearwater beach condo and home owners from Sand Key to Island Estates as well as the local tourists.

The Jolley Trolley had 2 routes covering Clearwater Beach, Sand Key, Island Estates and Downtown Clearwater. Recent budget cuts by the City of Clearwater in mid-July have forced this non-profit organization to cut their services down to 2 trolley's and only one route. Currently there was only limited use of the Route between downtown Clearwater and the Beaches so they have decided to stop this route for now. This should allow them to continue to operate with the 35% less funding next year from the City of Clearwater. As the Clearwater Downtown revitalization continues they hope to add the Downtown route again as the demand for going downtown rises.

The good news is the Jolley Trolley is still a great bargain - The cost to ride the Trolley is still only $1.25 - in fact you can stay on as long as you want for that price. For the young (those 4-10) and the young at heart (those 65 and over)- you ride for less than half that price at just $.60 a trip. Babies and Toddlers under the age of 3 are FREE.

So don't worry about having a cocktail at a local restaurant or finding parking at various locations - just hop the Trolley and enjoy the ride! The typical round trip from North Clearwater Beach (Starting at the Regatta Beach Club) and going to Sand Key (to Ultimar) averages 35 minutes. You can catch the trolley at the posted signs located on almost every other block or just flag them down if you see them coming - if they can stop safely they will.

The Jolley Trolley sounds like a blast !! Hopefully, the financing will grow in the years to come.

What a fun way to see Clearwater Beach! Hopefully they won't have to make any more cuts and the Jolley Trolley will be there for everyone to enjoy.

What a neat post, Cyndee. We had the Jolley Trolleys in Ogunquit Maine where we used to vacation. It was a great way to get around.

Love the additions to your post (testimonials, etc.) Great job. Are you getting any feedback?

Jeff

Cyndee- The Jolley Trolley sounds like a great way to get around. We have a trolley system in downtown West Palm Beach. The jury has to take the trolley from the parking lot to the courthouse. Katerina

Missy - it is a great way to travel - I always appreciate it when I'm thinking of enjoying a sunset with a cocktail! :-)

Ashley - The kids absolutely love to ride on it - and it's fun because traffic moves at a pace that you can take it all in. As a matter of fact I should probably take a ride and just shoot photos - lightbulb moment:-)

Jeff - Readers seem to enjoy having the MLS at the push of a button and I've had several requests for our Tampa Bay relocation guide. Appreciate your kind words.

Booo!  Viva la Trolley's!

Katerina - Sorry to say but our Trolley sounds like more FUN! (LOL)

Chris, I know it doesn't compare to your "duct tape" van (LOL) - actually it's doing fine and serving the most used route - Downtown Clearwater continues to try to discover what it wants to be when it grows up!:-)

WOW that sounds like fun!!!  I miss the trolley...they have one in the city where I'm from originally.  When the ozone was high you can ride for a quarter to decrease the number of cars on the road.

Cyndee - Love the name - Jolly Trolley! This type of transportation is good for the city and the environment - hope they are able to stay around and increase their routes, when Clearwater grows up! :)

Oh Kim it is fun- especially in the cooler months - like October - it's great for tourists so they don't have to rent a car and then struggle to find a place to park it. Thanks for stopping by! :-)

Paula - I love the name too - it fits our laid back tropical beaches!! I also appreciate the "low impact' component of using the trolley for lots of eco friendly reasons as well.

I want to ride on the Jolley Trolley :(

Renee - I'll save you a seat - when you coming to visit? (LOL) Maybe your husband could claim he needs to come to Tampa Bay to do some Casino research - hmmmmm - Isn't NAR coming to Orlando next year?

Never ceases to amaze me how communities spend their funds.. it seems anything that actually is a benefit to the community gets removed while doofus items manage to stay.. We have a similar problem in MB.. everyone gripes about lack of parking downtown.. merchants want more foot  traffic .. so we also cut out a community trolley service from the east side of town to downtown because the council thought no one would really use it.. I suppose it's nice to know we aren't the only community who doesn't get it..

Hey Cyndee,

Jolly trolley, too fun. Glad to hear it's still running, even on a more limited basis. We've got one in our town too, fairly new only about 3 years.

Cyndee, I love riding the Trolley. We have one in Ventura. Glad to see your town is keeping the Jolly Trolley.

Cyndee, looks like a valuable service for both homeowners and beach goers!  I sure hope they continue to fund the Jolly Trolley in Clearwater!

No better way to get around Clearwater Beach than on a breezy Jolley Trolley!  Someone else driving is always good.  =)

Those trollies sound like fun. One question ... why are they set up to be non-profit? Would people resist if the price went up a little in order to fund them?

(08/26/07 09:41PM) — Jennifer Fivelsdal, Rhinebeck NY

Trolleys are such fun.  I just saw one at the Roundout in Kingston and I thought it was such nice way for people to get around.  So I hope there will always be funding to keep the Clearwater Trolley in operation.

There is a similar trolley in Boynton Beach.... its full route won't be realized until the new "Heart of Boynton" project is complete but it still picks up at the Mall and drops off at the beach!

nice and fun method of getting around ... also a good way to capitalize on places short on parking!

I remember a restaurant growing up that used the comfort of the trolley called Ollie's Trolley... Supposedly they invented soft serve ice cream... and they had amazing fries with garlic pepper on them!

Cyndee,

The picture of the trolley is nice - love the palms in the background.  Looks like a cheap and fun way to get around Clearwater Beaches.

Kaye - I'm not sure - it was originally developed to service our tourists - as budget tightens I think we'll findout.

Lynda - It just has a certain "poetic place" slowling taking in the beach with all your senses - it is a great asset for our beaches

Mana - makes sense a town like yours would have a trolley too - do your kids enjoy it?

Chris - thanks for stopping by - it is great for eveyone's use - especially during the peak season when less cars is better. Plus with the price of gas it just makes sense.

Hey Maggie - I agree - it's great having someone else have the responsibility and stress of driving.

Jennifer - how cool to know you have them there as well - we also have a roundabout that has been the source of much debate - all in all it's worked out to help - but oh the traffic accidents that have occurred:-(

David - I think they are becoming more popular in our beach communities. There is a similar one for the lower Pinellas beaches. Glad to hear that Boynton is getting there own!!

Rita - thank you for your kind words!! Appreciate your visits

what a great way to see the local sites and get around.... I would be all for this one when I visit

Another way to make the trip to the beach even more fun!  I bet the tourists really enjoy it and make good use of it.

Sounds like the AR-Tribe needs to take a ride on the Jolly Trolley and increase their numbers!!  Can you imagine THAT TRIP?  We could take pictures of beautiful Clearwater Beach as we cruise along the open-air-trolley!  A 30-minute trip around Clearwater sounds like a wonderful thing.  Besides...why drive when the Jolly Trolley will do the driving for you?  What an absolute treat for all those in Clearwater who are already there to enjoy some down time?

Tarpon Springs has a trolley too! Those things are so cute! Tourists love them!!!

Cyndee - The Jolley Trolley looks great.  I hope they continue to keep it going & add the other route back eventually.

Cyndee,  I bet the kids love Jolley Trolley in Clearwater Beach!  That would be so fun to ride around town..too bad they did budget cuts but atleast they are still there!  Sounds like a nice piece of history in the area.

This trolley is such an asset and a landmark - well done Cyndee!!

I can't hear or think of the word Trolley without thinking of one of my favorite movies - Meet Me in St. Louis, and Judy singing "Clang clang clang, went the trolley..."

That's one of my favorite Judy Garland songs.

Trolleys are fun - and wow, so cheap to ride!

What a neat feature... I think I get to the Clearwater Beaches about once every 3 years!  Sounds like a night out in Clearwater with the Haydon's :)

Katrina - it's great fun - day or night. Sounds like a plan. Thanks for stopping by.

Cyndee I wish we had a trolley out here. It just might cut down on traffic, and it is cheap too wow

Dan it is a great way to see Clearwater Beach and Sand Key - thanks for stopping by!

Thesa - it is a great way to get around - luckily we have great weather so being open air is great!

Steve - thank for stopping by - it's been a while - how are things in Colorado these days?

Joanne - its a great tourist attraction - but gotta confess - we locals love it too!

Karen Rice - thank you for stopping by to learn more about the trolley - it's always good to see you!

Leah - thanks for stopping by - we need to go for a ride together - you know I'll have my camera (LOL)
