Anybody who has traveled to Maine knows of the rocky shoreline that characterizes our coast, specifically the mid coast Maine region. Being an avid boater, with a dream of selling real estate via motor boat, a recent trip to Sequin pictured here and located at the mouth of the Kennebec River has been guiding ships safely since its commission in 1795. No longer manned year round, the Friends of Seguin have done a wonderful job preserving this treasure, the highest lighthouse in Maine at 186 feet above sea level. During the summer months, caretackers live on the island and are always welcoming of any would be explorer with a boat and the desire to make the trek off shore about 4-5 miles. The mouth of the Kennebec is home to Fort Popham and Popham Beach state park whom recently celebrated the 400 year anniversary of Maine's First Ship commemorating the boat that brought back the first settlers to England in their failed attempts to colonize the new world.
The river divided 2 great peninsulas of land Phippsburg from Georgetown and meaners its way up to Bath home of the Bath Iron Works where our nations great Aegis Destoyers are built by the best ship builder in the world . Thus Sequin has seen many a ship sail past its shores as Bath was at one time the largest ship building port in the world. Hopefully this lighthouse and many more shall continue to shine bright and bellow its mighty fog horn for many years to come.
