Ventura County Real Estate: E-Waste Managment in Ventura County

E-wasteEach year in the State of California thousands and thousands of electronic items become out dated and are regarded as electronic waste. Electronic waste (E-waste) consists of electronic products that were used for data processing, telecommunications, or entertainment in private households and businesses that are now considered obsolete, broken, or irreparable. (Wikipedia)

In January, 2005, the State of California made it illegal for residents and businesses to place their electronic E-waste in the trash by banning electronics from landfills. According to the California Integrated Waste Management Board, in 2003, 515,000 tons of electronics were dumped into California landfills; 44% of the waste by volume consisted of CRTs (cathode ray tubes) and TV sets.

The metal, glass, and plastic of the electronic equipments can be recycled and reused. However the rest of E-waste, if not taken care of properly can be a major source of toxins and Carcinogens in our environment. The toxic substances in E-waste may include Lead, Mercury, and Cadmium.

So what can you do to help?E-waste

  • Maintenance: You can reduce your E-waste by up keeping your electronic equipments.

Very interesting post,  I'll do more research to find out how we can all put our little grain of sand,  thank you for blogging.

Mana, great resources and suggestions!

Great information Mana!  It pays to recycle instead of just pitching it.  I always offer my old computers to kids that attend school with my kids and don't have a computer.  There are many kids out there that could use another computer.  Not everyone has three or four in their homes.

Mana - Good to see so many locations for recycling in Ventura County. It is so important to keep the electronics out of the landfills.

Francisco, Thank you for your comment and your effort to save the environment.

Irina, Thank you for visiting.

Chris, That is great solution. Thank you.

Ashley, Yes, Ventura County has provided us with many spots to deliver our unwanted electronics.

Mana, this is a great post.  Personally, I have never thought about where all the electronics go.  I always give mine away.  Just shows we all need to be more aware of such issues that are going on around us.

Mana - Many do not know they should not dispose of unwanted items such as electronics. It is a great topic which needs to be repeated!

Lynda, Thank you you are very kind.

Rita, I have to say, I am very proud of Ventura County.

Kimberly, I have never had to call any of these guys either. Like you I have been giving my used electronics away.

Paula, Why don't you write a post on the same topic to cover you area.

Mana - Great information and links.  I have this fear that the landfills will overtake us one day, recycling is the key!

Mana - what a great green article - I typically donate all my old electronics to our schools or the boys and girls club... great tax right off too

Kim, I hope not. Recycling is the key.

Thesa, That is awesome. Schools always can use electronics.
