I enjoy what I do! I'm sure that many of us would not be in Real Estate if we didn't like our careers. There are so many other things to do to earn a decent living.
A couple weeks ago, I decided to go fishing with some friends. This is not the first time making plans to do so. Usually I find other things to do and cancel. A client or team member will call and needs something at the last minute so I cancel.
I guess I am somewhat of a workaholic!
I was going to cancel again, but someone else beat me to it. If I didn't go, the trip would have been canceled. I reluctantly went. What a long drive from Yakima (Central) Washington to the Oregon coast! Did I make the righ choice?
Then to make it worse, we stayed in a motel right out of a horror movie! I was joking about roaches, right when one crawled into sight.
The next morning, there must have been a million boats in the water. It seemed like bumper boats!
It was CRAZY!
The weather was bad and my cell phone was dead. I just knew that important calls were being missed.
Then everyone on the boat was catching fish but me. I was feeling regretful about coming. Not sorry for myself, but I felt like I was wasting my time. This was time wasted.
Then I started joking with the guide. I told him that I had lucky bait on my hook.
I informed everyone that it would be a while until any of them could catch fish; it was my turn. We were all laughing. It wasn't long and it was my turn...I hooked a King...the fight was on! Then it was high fives and the short-lived nickname "Kingfisher".
Not long after that, I hooked its twin.
This was a fighter, who immediately came out of the water. What a sight! Too bad the video recorder wasn't on. The guide chased this fish as I reeled it in. What a rush! An hour earlier, I was wishing to be somewhere else. Now I did not care about my cell phone.
I almost missed out on this opportunity! Why don't I take more time off from work? I do not remember all the details of any day at work since, but I remember the experience of that day.
You know...I only had four messages on my voicemail; everything was fine. It was really more than fine; I took a day to just simply RELAX.

I always go to Mexico fishing for tuna. My phone has no chance of getting signal. It is like heaven.
At first it's weird being without your phone, but you get so used to it, it's strange having to be a slave to it again.
You have to make time for yourself in any occupation especially Real Estate. You are no good to yourself or others if you are wound to tight. Glad you went fishing, next time, turn the phone off, or leave it at home.
Nice fish. I'm glad you had a good time. Will you do it again?
I have to admit I am bad and never seem to find the time to take off and just relax. I am going to make a stronger effort to do so. Thanks for the post.
I try to turn my mobile off at 8PM. There are rare times that I need to be there for someone, but I want to spend time with my family. They come first.
Good for you Nathan! We realtors do need a break once in a while. We are entitled to a day off or even a vacation. When I finally get an opportunity to go away or take a day to myself, I leave a nice message on my voicemail that I am at a convention and that they need to call my partner.
Thanks for the post Nathan. R & R time is so very important. I'd take it a step further and also say that "Me" time is just as important too.
Nathan, those are some good looking fish!
Mike in Tucson
ME time is important.
I have to have ME time also, and family time which always comes first. I just got back from Florida, and I just put a message on my voicemail stating I was on vacation, and when I would be back but if it is a emergency to call my office number. If you don't do that people will try and run over you. I learned that vacations are a MUST!
It is always good to have some kind of way to rejuvenate yourself, what ever that may be!
I love Bumber Boats! Thanks for commenting on My coloring contest. I ended up doing 4 age groups.
We all need a little time.
Good for You!
hobbies are great
Those fish look HEAVY
Balance is so important in our lives.
What can be more important than our families?
The photos you used are great...they make a great point.
Thank You.
