The Lake City Development Corporation and Idaho Housing and Finance Association are working together to create workforce housing in midtown Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
"We are excited about the opportunity to help create affordable workforce housing for the Coeur d'Alene community, as well as provide revitalization investment for the midtown area," said IHFA executive director Gerald Hunter.
If the development goes through, Housing and Finance's development arm, The Housing Company, will construct street level retail and office space, with workforce housing on upper floors. Other details have not yet been determined.
Under the plan -- still in beginning stages -- the development corporation will cede its three now-empty lots on Fourth Street to the nonprofit, LCDC board members agreed Wednesday.

Christina - This is a growing need in so many cities. Wonderful to see that Couer d'Alene is being so progressive in answering this need. Thanks for the info.
Marlene - It's interesting. It's more of a need because of the paradigm shift going on here. People are not used to having to live 10 minutes farther away, nor having to buy a condo to start out in rather than a single family home. I'm glad they are working on it now before it truly is a need.
