This vacant home felt so cold when I first viewed it....it's been on the market for several months with no offers so the sellers wanted to do whatever was needed to make the home more appealing to potential buyers (there had been lots of showings, and realtors reported that the home is priced right).
The sellers agreed to follow my recommendations including painting the decorative wood trim a warmer color, changing out the main floor light fixtures from brass to brushed nickel, and removing the dated fan in this living room:

Here's the Living room after the cosmetic improvements were completed and we staged it:

When the homeowner saw the finished staging, she loved the transformation. Let's hope the buyers will too!

Okay, so I just commented on your other blog about staging, but I think it is so important! It makes the room look and feel so different. I also think it's so much fun to do! Good work!
Amy ~ Thank you again for your nice compliment! You hit the nail on the head -- it is so much FUN!! I feel so lucky to be able to do what I LOVE for a living.
WOW! If this isn't graphic proof how important staging is, I don't know what more anyone could do to convince someone who doubts its merit. Great work.
Marlene~ Thank you for your kind comments. Slowly we are getting the word out about the benefits of staging a vacant property. Showing Before & After photos allows prospective clients to "see" the difference, just like buyers will when they view the property online or in person.
Wow, this wont stay on the market long. Staging is such a great technique to do.
Good luck!!!
Sara ~ Fingers are crossed for a quick sale for these clients! Thanks for stopping by and welcome to A/R!
Maureen -- you do such wonderful work. I love the picture over the fireplace. What color did you recommend for the decorative wood trim?
Hi Karen ~ You are too nice, thank you so much. The picture above the fireplace is actually my own, it is not part of my staging inventory -- but it worked so well in that space that I took it off my bedroom wall! The colors in it played off the green marble fireplace as well as the furniture accent colors...and the creamy soft color of the cottage in the print was identical to the wall color (sorry I don't remember the paint color but will find it for you).
Maureen, the transformation is amazing. I love the picture above the fireplace too. Sure hope it gets returned to its rightful place really, really soon. Betty
It looks wonderful and the artwork over the fireplace puts the window to scale. The colors look warm and inviting as well. GREAT JOB and beautiful colors.

Hi Betty ~ Me too! I miss that picture but thought this room really needed it more than I did. The things we do for our clients, eh? (did you know that I went to my first year of college in Montreal? Can't remember if I told you before....I said "eh" constantly when I returned home and it drove my family crazy.)
Hey Phyllis ~ You are right -- the mirror that was there Before was much too big for the windows. The picture did fit that space like a glove. Thanks so much for your feedback!
Now that is a transformation! I know it will sell soon.
Tanya ~ Thank you! Fingers crossed for a quick sale....the sellers worked really hard getting the cosmetic improvements completed up until the day we staged.
Maureen,
What talent you have, when I see your posts I always look at not only the great job you do, but also for the information you share with us. I've learned a lot from you and the other regular "posters" here!
Thanks,
Penny White, Beststagedesign Inc.
Penny ~ Thanks for your comments.....I've learned so much here on A/R too! What a great community we have for ideas, tips, resources, etc.
Fernando ~ I'd thought of putting a larger rug in this room but we wanted to show off the beautiful hardwood floors, so the smaller rug (from IKEA) did the trick. Thanks for stopping by!
Maureen- This is so pretty. The dark candlesticks look great with the white mantle and pick up the dark marble fp tile. I thought I was the only one who ripped artwork off my walls at home! One of the libraries here in Houston actually lets you check out artwork for 6 weeks. It's not real convenient to me, but I want to check their inventory soon!
Kathy
Kathy ~ Thank you! It sounds like you have access to an amazing resource -- is the Houston library art free for 6 weeks? If so, I'd be a frequent visitor there!
Wowee! That's yummy! And I love the tea set. Totally unexpected and yet perfect with the painting. Beautiful, classic lines and an unmatched calm. Great job.
Juliet ~ We found the tea set in the kitchen cupboard, so decided to use it on a tray we had. Thanks very much for your kind words.
Great work once again Maureen!
Have to say I know you are in a different state, but I swear we did an identical house :) Too funny!
hi Beth ~ Was the one you did built around 1912 too? This one had been updated by a previous owner, but done in a way that didn't blend well with the vintage architectural features....it's unfortunate when that happens. Staging can really help though to distract away from that. Thanks for stopping by!
Very nice! The chair facing towards the entrance of the room is almost saying, "come on in and sit down!"
Kristina ~ Thanks for your comment. Hopefully the potential buyers also felt that welcoming feeling when they walked in!
Maureen,
The difference is amazing. I agree 100% with all your recommendations. Way to go!
how cute is that! thanks for sharing, i love before & after photos.
Anthea ~ Thanks for your comment...it's nice to know you agreed with our changes.
Chris ~ Aren't the Before & Afters fun to see? I could look at them all day! Thanks for stopping by.
