door with a citation and a ruler showing your negligence in maintaining the prescribed lawn maintenance height. In your plantations in Maine, and the T2 R3 unorganized locations the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) is the board to get your permits from when the local authority is non existent in your towns of under a hundred taxpayers. Along the Maine lakes, ponds and rivers/brooks, shoreland zoning was authored by the state. It gets implemented by towns and the Department Of Environmental Protection (DEP). Less restrictive, laced with common sense...one more freedom of living in rural areas of Maine. Maine..the way life should be...used to be. The other nice thing about living in rural Maine, the small towns need you to serve on the zoning, board of budget review, school and town government councils. Big sense of community involvement when you live and serve on local Maine boards.

Sure sounds tempting, but I know I can't take the winters. Maybe if I was a skier.
Boy I wish the lawn police were here in Ormond Beach, the lawn across the street must be 2 ft high, it gets cut once a month whether it needs it or not :(
Andrew, years ago it was my dream to live in the country and have that kind of lifestyle...
I can see both sides of the situation I want my neighbors to keep up on the lawns and maintain their homes, but I don't like people telling me what I can and can't do with my yard or what color I can or can't paint my house.
Rosario..have a new ski jacket for you...19 degrees average Aroostook County Maine temperature...I like it way better than humidity of south..just add a sweater! Lysa...kinda like the once a week Saturday bath whether you need it or not huh? Long lawn in dry conditions can be a fire hazard too! Rick..You work hard on your investment and want to know the Beverly Hillbillies are not going to plop a tar paper shack up next door...zoning is good...but can go over the top! Brian...listen to your dream....gas up the car and point 'er north. Unspoiled outdoor beauty and not a slug of people or traffic! Maybe we should start a swap homes for a month exchange program..with Active Rainers kinda hard state licensing wise though (wink) !
HHMmmm. Maine is such a beautiful place. I stayed at the Lord Captain Mansion with my wife and walked through the beautiful shops in kennebunkport. Its hard to believe behind the scenes awaits "Rules, strict narrow zoning, fines, moratoriums...code enforcement times fifty".
LOL lawn police with little rulers and pocket protectors. Here we have the water police.
Robert...We don't have those rules and restrictions in Maine...that is why it is nice! Keith and Robin...Water is never a problem well wise...although dry fall and lower levels in the lakes! Glad we don't have water or lawn police!
Andrew, One of my favorite Maine stops is good ole' LLBean in Freeport. You do have lovely towns, but I think the longer winter than we have in Virginia wouldn't be my happiest option, Karen
