Last night we watched a glorious sunset as the smoke started infiltrating the Las Vegas Valley by pouring over the western mountains.
Picture 1: The first picture I took from our house. The sunset was so beautiful and pink.
Picture 2: The wafts of smoke taken from Sunset/215 you can see the streaks slowly making their way through.
Picture 3: Another one taken from Sunset/215
Picture 4: Taken this morning (10/26/2007). Usually we have a glorious view of Red Rock Canyon from our backyard but it is obstructed from the smoke.
I started taking new vitamins this week and woke up in the middle of the night with my throat swollen, my eyes swollen and my ears hurting. I automatically thought I was allergic to the vitamins but then when I woke up I had a "duh" moment. I have a pine allergy.
It was literally raining ashes during the Scripps Ranch fire of 2003 (?) here in the valley but my allergies have gotten progressively worse throughout the years. Undoubtedly I will have to drug myself up on antihistimine the next several days and keep remembering that somewhere else, someone else is having a worse time than me.
As my mother, a devout Catholic always says: "Offer it up!"
I hope all of my California friends are well.

This is such a devastating thing for everyone in southern California, we will keep praying for rain and relief as well.
Wow...these fires really caused some far reaching consequences!
Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos with us. I can only imagine the allergy problems people will have from this. Take care.
In the southern San Joaquin Valley, about 1-1/2 hours north of LA, the allergies are off the chart as well. People seem to think they're getting a cold; yet, odds are good it's just a reaction to the air quality. I'm sorry to learn you're being troubled by this. We often don't think about the true reach of local disasters. Enjoy the sunrises and sunsets is the best advice I can give, and thanls for the post.
We heard that the smoke and ashes were coming your way. With the shift in the winds, our throats and noses are still burning, and a lot of coughing is still going on.
Our prayers go out to all those affected by the CA fires. I hadn't though how far reaching the effects might be.

Renee - Beautiful shots. Unfortunately the smoke and dust will be causing you some discomfort. I really feel for you, my allergy issue has gotten progressively worst.
My husband has had a very raspy throat all week...talks like he's got a frog in it...he swears up and down it's not allergies...he has major issues with allergies and knows an attack when it comes on. I never dreamed it could be from the smoke. Millon $$$ says that's what it is from!
The pictures are awesome Renee...
Renee - Here, within 10 or 15 miles of the blazes, the smoke was beyond belief. Thursday was horrendous, but it's been getting better. I can't say I'm surprised you're seeing it in Las Vegas.
awwww I am happy to hear that I am not the only one listening to wise old ladies like MOM. Feel my pain!!
I had no idea that you actually could see the aftermath of the smoke from the blazes here in California. My heart goes out to the many folks impacted. Unfortunately, October has historically been a tragic time here.
One of my friends had 20 minutes to evacuate - it puts things into perspective.
I guess you don’t realize how close you are until you see these photos.
