I think the following pictures illustrate the difference between Home Staging and Decorating.
This bathroom update was done using only the items the homeowner had on hand. Home staging does not have to be expensive. The only money the homeowner spent was for a can of paint. We stripped the border, painted the room an off white and rearranged the existing accessories. The floral arrangement was in one of the home's bedrooms. So what do you think of this under $25 makeover?

Beautiful Maureen! It looks like a brand new bathroom! Well done.
It makes a world of difference, Maureen! I think anyone could live with the staged bathroom. I know my hubby would have had major issues with it in it's previous state!
Maureen ~ Looks great! I had to keep looking back and forth to make sure it was the same bathroom! How many coats did it take to cover up that pink?
Tara - thanks, the homeowners were great to work with.
Sarah - I forgot to mention that this bath is in a 2 BR townhome so I think part of our target demographic will be single men so getting it less gender specific was a big issue. Whenever I stage a home I always keep the architecture, potential buyers and local demographics in mind.
Awesome example and a fantastic job -- HUGE difference -- the pink HAD to go; but I love what you did with the mirror and pictures -- same stuff w/ improved presentation!
Hey Maureen - great as usual. What strikes me about this bathroom is it was probably the lighter color when they moved in and made it a personal space with the pink...do you think? Good balancing act too!
Maureen, This is a fabulous investment for the homeowner. Not on ly will her home sell quicker, I'm sure she'll make more money in the process.
Maureen - 5 Stars!!!
Jackie
I actually had a client once that wanted her bathroom decorated the colors of Victorias Secret all pink and foofoo!
Sheron - the homeowner did paint it the pink. She loves it. That is the thing with staging and interior design - they are just not the same thing. The homeowner really doesn't love the neutral bath, but she was such a great sport.
Cindy - not my style either but whatever floats your boat.
Anthea and Jackie - thanks!
Definitely time for the pink to go!
That is amazing... and people think that Staging is expensive. Just the paint alone made a world of difference.. you could have even left the windex on the sink and it would still look great ;)
I think it's awesome, Maureen. Great job!
I hope that border came off easier that the room we just did. I do believe it was superglued on. This looks like a new room and one a man could feel peaceful in.
It looks fantastic, Maureen! I love it when we can bring about such dramatic changes for so little money. I am a real cheerleader for that approach whenever possible when I do stagings or redesigns. Plus, I think it helps the homeowner learn a thing or two about thinking outside the box that they can use for themselves down the road. Kudos to you!
Wow that is nice! I love pink but....They were stuck in a time warp too! Wonderful jon and it is such a dramtic change for little money..and that is what it is all about..Spending as little as possible and making it look as if you have spent thousands!

I think the home shoppers will be tickled pink when they see this new bathroom Maureen! Excellent job!
The bathroom looks great. Trendy colors come and go, but white is eternal.
Under $25.00...It is amazing what can be done with sweat equity, talent and vision. Good job.
wow wow wow. I saw this on Google this morning and had to come comment, If this does not convince peopel the power of staging then I do not know what else can, Bravo KH
Maureen, You saved this bathroom a good 15 years, it looks that much newer! Great job, it looks terrific!
Derrick - Sweat equity is exactly right. I love handy homeowners.
The homeowner actually make the floral arrangement also. She had some great things in the home. It was a fun home to stage.
What a great transformation! It looks so calm now - not like you fell into a bottle of Pepto-Bismal.
Nice work.
Maureen -- Fabulous transformation! A can of paint and a talented stager. . .priceless!
Maureen...that bathroom looks 100x better!!! If I had to get dressed in that bright pink bathroom everyday I think I'd start to get a headache.
Nice work!
Reece
Maureen, it's fantastic! BTW, if that's decorating, I'll take your staging any day. Betty
Maureen,
That 1st picture looks like a bad commercial for Pepto Bismal. They should thank their lucky stars that they hired you.
Good job. I had to stare at them twice to see if they are even the same bathroom.... and I dont do that very often.
PS: I dont want to sound rude, but even at decorating, hot pink shouldnt quite be the color..... but it could just be my personal taste.
Looks like a million bucks! That's got to be the best $25 they've ever spent. Nice job Maureen!
Can you say Pepto Bismol. :)
The transformation is fantastic. I bet the owner's are thrilled. Great job Maureen.
Maureen - What a transformation ! and an inexpensive one. Sometimes it does not take much to make a big difference.
Hi Maureen, What a difference!!!! Great job! Very smart clients you have to listen to you!
I think that's amazing, and I agree ... staging does not have to be expensive. Compare this to Jackson West's bathroom makeover (http://activerain.com/blogsview/260223/Master-Sweet-A-home). While this too is amazing, I feel it could have been done in a less costly way, i.e. leave the floor, sink, counter as is ... and the other changes still would have been dramatic enough.
It all depends on the budget too, of course !
Maureen - Right on the money, as always. Another great exampl, thanks for sharing.
Wow...what a big difference Maureen. Well worth the expense ...$25.00 wow!
Wonderful visual, Maureen. So simple, but vital for that buyer appeal.
Kathy
Maureen ~ Very well done on a small budget! That pink was too personal and no doubt potential buyers would just be turned off and not consider this home seriously.....even the thought of painting a bathroom is daunting to some. Thanks for the photos!
....beyond words.....don't you love it?
Maureen: What a difference. It is hard to believe the transformation with what they already had. Great job.
WOW. Absolutely amazing, this "staging thing". ;)
Everything looks sooooo much richer, maybe even the clients are richer as well. Did the house sell?? Looks fabulous. PS: I have the same exact toothbrush caddy, I love it

If only more people could understand the value of a can of paint! Great show & tell....
Very nice!

Manly yes, but I like it too!
Happy Holidays Maureen!
Hi Maureen, I'm a Faux artist frm Staten Island and I like your wrk very much. I've worked in Jersey many times from Edison to Point Pleasant and more. I can be located on activerain by entering Architectural design in NewYork. Maybe one day I'll be able to do som work for you. Good Luck and will be talking to you again.
Maureen, I must appologize I thouhtyou wer from N.J. I must be getting old . I realizeyou are located in Rockland County. I have also worked there. My sister and brother-in-law own a granite business there and live in congers. I've even attended mass at st. Pauls R.C. church. - Frank Giunto, touchofthebrush@msncom- located on activerain under architectural design.
The pink made the room look so much smaller, now, its much more spacious. Great work!
Heather
Whoa! I love pink but get out the sunglasses. Much Improved!
It looks great. The best improvement is how the white base board heater blends in with the new paint color. I really stuck out like a soar thumb against the pink paint.
A nice transformation for very little money. That is important in today's market. I got a little discouraged today after reading a few, very negative posts about staging and how it costs thousands of $$ for something that anyone can do themself. So see-- it doesn't have to cost a lot of money!!
