A little about Tillamook, OregonThe name Tillamook was the name of a tribe of indians who thrived in the area, enjoying all of nature's bounty. If you ever want to read more about the indians of the time; you should read the 1960 historical novel Trask by Don Berry. The book is about Elbridge Trask who settled on the shores of Tillamook Bay in 1848. Dairy farms dominate the county's fertile valley. It is the home of the world-famous Tillamook Cheese Factory. The reforested, 355,000 acre "Tillamook Burn" is rapidly maturing. Commercial thinning will become increasingly evident. With 75 miles of scenic coastline, four bays and nine rivers, Tillamook County offers the finest deep-sea and stream fishing, charter and dory boats, clamming, crabbing, beachcombing and hiking.
