Water Conservation: A Must After All The WildFires

After all of the wildfires throughout the country and several articles over droughts occuring, I thought it was time to post some water conservation tips. After all, Georgia is facing one of the worst droughts of all time, having less than a 80 day supply of water for over 3 million residents, and this Tenessee town only having water for 3 hours a day, it seems that we need to learn to conserve water. After all, this isn't a resource that we can easily replenish.

So, without further ado, here are some of the water conservation tips:

Lawn Care:

1) Water your lawn only when necessary, if you step on your grass and it springs back, it does not need to be watered. 

2) Adjust your sprinklers to water your grass and plants, not your driveway or sidewalk.

3) Only water for about 2-4 minutes a day in the winter. Water doesn't evaporate in the winter season as much as the summer.

4) Use a broom or leaf blower to clean your sidewalks and driveways

Kitchen: 

1) Only run a completely full dishwasher. If you need a dish or two, do it by hand.

2) If you have a leaky faucet, fix it! They can waste up to 20 gallons of water a day, or 7,000+ gallons a year.

3) Use the garbage disposal less and the garbage can more.

Bathroom:

1) Shut off the sink when brushing your teeth or shaving.

2) Again, fix that leaky faucet!

3) Consider installing ultra-low flush toilets that use 1.6 gallons or less. Some cities or counties will provide the toilets for free so check with them!

4) Shut off the shower when lathering up. This can save hundreds of gallons every month.

5) Spend no more than 10 minutes in the shower.

Car Washing:

1) Wash your car with a bucket and hose with a shut off valve, or at a commercial car wash that uses recycled water. This can save an average of 30 gallons every time you wash your car!

If you do all of these things, you could save thousands of gallons a month, and hundreds of $$$ a year!
