Sharing a Harvest Sunset

A lot of things make me smile but one of my favorite is an Iowa Fall sunset. Nothing can give me the same feeling of driving through the countryside and seeing the big orange fall sunset. With the crop harvest as a backdrop and the scurry of activity before winter comes the sunset offers everybody a few minutes to stop and reflect not only on their day, but the many blessings we have in life. It makes you feel a special connection to the land that you might not notice in the city. Its almost as if God has shined a special light on the land to highlight it and make us take notice.

As I noticed the sun setting tonight, after a busy day I pulled off to the side of the road at the crest of a hill and just watched as the sun made it way past the horizon. I had my camera with me and wanted to be able to share so below you can see what I saw. If you could add to it the whine of the corn dryers and the distant sound of combines you'd be able to feel what I felt.

I've always enjoyed Terry Redlin's work and two of my favorites are Harvest Sunset and Harvest Moon Ball. I'll share the Harvest Sunset print and my own photograph of tonights sunset.
