Neighborhood Spotlight: Glover Park

This week it is time to put a spotlight on my favorite DC neighborhood: Glover Park. I personally live in Glover Park, and I love it. The perfect thing about the area is that it is a wonderful combination of small town and big city. It's only drawback is that it is not easily accessible by metro, but I think that is what makes it so quiet. In my opinion, it is DC's best kept secret. Glover Park is wonderfully convenient. You don't ever have to leave.

Nestled in the trees about a mile and a half north of Georgetown, we have some of the best restaurants in the District. My favorite restaurant is Heritage India. It has a wonderful, warm ambience, and serves amazing Indian food. I recommend the Dum Ka Murgh, garlic naan, and saffron rice. There is also Busara Thai, Margarita's Mexican, Rockland's Barbeque, and Kavanaugh's Pizza. You can walk to Whole Foods, Starbucks, CVS, a Post Office, a gas station, and two dry cleaners. There is a wonderful little wine store called Pearson's that has a huge selection of wines (including some very reasonably priced ones), as well as beer and liquor. There is also a small convenience store for late night emergencies (light bulb burns out, for example) called Glover Park Market. Glover Park Hardware store has some of the friendliest employees you will ever encounter, and carries everything you could possibly need for your home packed into a small space. It's like a clown car! And for an after-dinner treat, be sure to hit up Max's Best Ice Cream for some spicy pumpkin followed by a trip to the Grog and Tankard to hear a live band play.

We have great access to bus lines as well, including an easy walk to all the "30" buses on Wisconsin and Calvert, and you can catch the D2 to Dupont from several places in the neighborhood. We always catch it at Calvert and 39th. You can also walk to Georgetown in about 30 minutes, and it makes a lovely tree-lined stroll. We all love our animals in Glover Park, so most buildings are pet-friendly, and we have two dog parks. One is actually a make-shift dog park at 39th and Davis. The other is an official dog park at the end of 39th Street where you can take your babies to play. We even have a garden where those of you with a green thumb can sign up for your very own little piece of dirt to grow things in.
