Ventura County Holiday Waste Reduction Tips

According to California Integrated Waste Management Board, each week alone between Thanksgiving and the TRASHNew Year an extra million tons of waste is generated nationwide. There are ways we can help reduce this extra waste and cut the amount of trash we add to the landfills during the holidays. Bellow are just a few ideas for Ventura County's environmentally conscious Holiday Shoppers and Gift Givers.

 Shop from Recycle Stores: Use this link to find many qualified recycle stores who produce quality recycled products.

Use Rechargeable Batteries: If your present requires batteries try to batteriesbuy rechargeable batteries and the charger. We have been using rechargeable batteries for 2 years now and I can tell you that it has saved us a lot of money on buying new batteries every month.

Thanks for the reminder.  I tend to forget about conservation until someone like you :) reminds me.

Thank you for this very useful info.  I'm a big gift bag recycler and my family knows it.   I was appalled the first time I saw my in-laws throwing all the bows away!  I put them in a ziploc with air and throw them in the decorations to use next year.  I will be checking out all these links.

Great tips for all of us to follow!!! Reuseable bags are great for gift giving - they can be cloth grocery bags!

Mana--Since we started using gift bags and decorated boxes for most Christmas presents, we are able to shut the trash can the week after Christmas with no problem....The many bags of trash are gone! Thank goodness! Good ideas...Thanks!!
