A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post the Gift of Lights. an awesome tradition held yearly in Las Vegas. I am blogging about it again, and sharing some pictures I took when we visited the event this year. It's reasonably priced at $13 per car ($2.00 with a donation of something for Goodwill)...and is a great family event. It's obvious that lots of time and resources went into this event.
My one disappointment was that nothing was mentioned about Christmas. It was a 'Holiday' event....which is fine as long as other culture/religious holidays are not mentioned. But the lights covered most of those otherholidays during the month of December... from Kwanzaa to Hanukah to the Seasons Greetings, and the commericialized holiday of Santa and elves (without using the word Christmas). There was not one thing that depicted Jesus and the true meaning of the Christian holiday.
As we we were greet by 'Mr. Shark' (for lack of a better name) who was there compliments of one of the casinos in town which has a Shark Tank. The event is great in that you don't get out of your car at all...stay inside where it is warm! Cars drive slowly down streets of twinkling lights, in all shapes and forms. We were told to turn our car radio to a specific radio station and we listened to Christmas music as we ooooh'd and aaah'd,
The event runs from now until January 1, 2008...it's worth the time and money spent....it's a GREAT family event. For more information check out Gift of Lights

Thanks for the nice pictures Mary. I was there for the convention and had a blast.
Sure looks like a beautiful event to see. That's too bad about the lack of "Christmas " representation. Being a Christian, I would miss it too. Especially if others were mentioned. I wonder if it's always been that way in years past?
This may be a silly question but does it snow in Las Vegas? I thought it was warm year round. Sorry I am Canadian.
Todd and/or Danielle....Vegas is about 2300 feet, parts are as high as 2500. We do get snow a couple times a year. It's usually not enough to stick to the ground (melts immediately), but the news media usually finds a few good places where the kids are having snowball fights :) I've seen it cover our car but that's as far as it gets. Mount Charleston is about 25-30 minutes from the north part of Vegas and they have TONS of snow...enough for skiing
Thanks for sharing those photos...I can't imagine more lights in Vegas than there already are. I bet from space Vegas just twinkles away.
Sorry I missed the NAR Convention but unfortunately due to some health issues and clients that needed my attention, it just wasn't in the cards. So close but so far away. Would have enjoyed meeting you in person.
I love it Mary! These pictures are so beautiful. I love the festivity. Have a wonderful week.
great pictures Mary! Thanks for sharing them

Mary - Wow this looks like a great light show and in one place I'd least expect to see one!
Mary - These are so pretty! I love the Christmas season and all the decorations!
Mary, How do you do these photos at night? Do you use a tripod? What camera? What setting?..I never get good results. Help!
