First Time Home Buyers - Get A Home Inspection

Congratulations! Now that you have made an offer You are on a fast track to owning your first home! But your work is not complete. In order to protect yourself, and your investment, you need to order a complete home inspection, prior to closing on the home.

The Money Pit MovieWhy is a home inspection important? A Home inspection is crucial because you should make sure that the home you intend to buy is in good condition.

Several years ago, the actor Tom Hanks did a movie called "The Money Pit". The story centers around a couple who buy a beautiful home, one that they consider to be the home of their dreams. It is highly unlikely that they had a home inspection done, as problem after expensive problem begins to surface. For every dime they spend to resolve one issue, another expensive issue would appear, hence the movie's title "The Money Pit"

Although the story is fictional, the movie could serve as a precautionary tale of what NOT to do when buying a home. The circumstances in the movie can be a harsh reality if a home inspection is not done prior to closing.

Spending a couple hundred dollars on a home inspection could in fact, save you thousands of dollars down the road. It could also prevent you from purchasing a home that just isn't as good as it looks.

A home inspection evaluates the condition of a home through the eyes of a trained expert. A qualified inspector will take an impartial look at the property you want to buy, and provide you with a written report of findings, usually within five to seven days.

Absolutely to perfection my friend.  I love the information you are sending out to buyers.  You are truly inspiring me to do the same thing for my community Alecia.

ANY buyer ...get a home inspection :) You have been doing a great series here Alecia...good deal!

Julie- I love doing this- it has been really fun, and I am getting wonderful feedback!

Sally- Thanks so much! I really value your input!

My wife just made me watch the money pit for the first time about 5 months ago and if that doesn't convince you to get an inspection nothing will!

Alecia:  ANOTHER great piece for the buyer. GREAT info...and the links are fantastic. LOVE it! I hope you are having a beautiful week! Love, Elizabeth

Todd- after watching the couple in the movie go through what they did, you would be crazy NOT to get a home inspection first!

Elizabeth- Thanks so much for coming by and reading! Your input is always appreciated! :-)

Alecia-you make me want to be your buyer!  Great info

Although I haven't seen the movie - This is a very logical and thorough way of presenting the importance of this to buyers. Excellent post and format Alecia!

Sincerely,

Grace Safrin

Hi Alecia, it is always a protective step for clients to have them secure a home inspection to make sure what they think they are getting is really the facts.  Nice post.

Midori-  It would be awesome if you moved to Oregon! And if I ever moved to Florida....:-)

Grace: Thanks so much! I really appreciate your feedback!

Gary: I wouldn't sell the home to them if they weren't willing to have it inspected first, thanks so much for commenting!

Hi Alecia ~ Yet another great installment on the series. I am very proud of you! Sorry we never got a chance for our coffee date last week. Let's try again! :)

Sarah- I KNOW we will have coffee soon, what is awesome is that I am busy, and it's winter! God is so good!

This is advice every buyer should follow. Buying a home is a major purchase and is worth the few hundred dollars spent on a home inpsection.

Derrick- Thank you for commenting. Hopefully, first time home buyers that read this will understand why this is so important!

Great post, Alecia, and series. Glad to see you emphasizing the need for buyers to get a home inspection.

Karen- thanks so much for the comment!
