Yesterday I posted on Iowa satellite aerial photography, but there is yet another type of aerial photography used for a different purpose. There are a few photographers across the state that will fly over and photograph your farm for you. This will give you a photo that is different from satellite photography. Satellite photography will be 1 dimensional, while getting a photo taken by airplane will give you a 2 dimensional photo. You will be able to tell the height and shape of structures. With satellite photography everything looks flat. These photos are often used to decorate your home or just a nice conversation piece in the family room. When I see old photos I can see how they serve a great historical account of the farm as well. They even make a great personalized gift so
There are a few "aerial photographers" around the state. These are people that are licensed pilots and skilled photographers. I set out to find one for each part of Iowa so hopefully I've got enough here to cover the entire state. If you are interested in having your family farm photographed for yourself or to give as a gift find a aerial photographer close to you and give them a call.
I can personally recommend one of the photographers. Chris Ruhaak of Heartland Photo and Design makes my business cards and he does and excellent job. In fact, the photo you see of me to the right was taken by Chris. He is very creative and has a beautiful studio in Council Bluffs.

Jason, good information to have on hand. I think an aerial photo for a rural property would be very effective. How much does a aerial photo typically cost?
Hi Dave- I've seen prices anywhere from $125 to $400 so its important to check around.
Jason,
If you have any examples of their photos, why don't you edit this post and add them?
I love aerial photos! When I first got my private pilot's license, I used to take my buying clients up in my plane to take an aerial photo of the home they just purchased. It was fun and a great gift for them as well.
Thanks for this information. And welcome to the Iowa Real Estate group!
Lucky :)
Thanks Lucky- I meant to put up a few photos but never did get permission to use them so I kind of forgot about it. I'll give it a try again because I agree it would be a nice additon.
The pilots license would be a great addition to your resources as a realtor. Unfortunately after spending a little to much time in National Guard helicopters on marijuana eradication missions I try to spend as much time on the ground as possible now.
