Many may have heard of the devastating floods last week in areas of Oregon and Washington. One town that was hard hit was the small town of Vernonia in Columbia County Oregon. Vernonia is a small isolated town located in The Oregon coast range (Hwy 26 west to Hwy 47) My family moved to Vernonia when I was 13 and I lived there for 11 years. If anyone would like to help the people of Vernonia there are links on the KATU website.
Below are some pictures I took last summer when I visited Vernonia. Top left is Rock Creek which runs thruough the center of town. Each summer it is dammed up with the log to create the local swimming hole. Top center-Bridge St. in downtown Vernonia Top right- The Nehalem River where Rock Creek converges at Anderson Park-also right in town. Bottom pics include the new Public library, Rock Creek at Hawkins Park, and the house I grew up in on Rose Avenue.
