Pee Wee's Poker Run Tally & Story With PhotosA couple weeks ago I told you that we were having a poker run for a friend ours, Pee Wee, that needed our help. The poker run to raise money for him that ended up being held in two parts (that doesn't happen often).
We had the raffle yesterday at the Iron Horse during the Big Engine show and it was a lot of fun. Big Engine really rocks! I had never heard them before. Thanks guys for letting us be part of your show!
Before I tell you how much we raised I want to tell you why we did it...
Nice huh? Once Pee Wee got on the road again with his new leg and a trike he was hit again, this time by a 20 yr old pregnant woman doing 55mph who was distracted by her other 2 children in the car. He was "t-boned" on the same side, his prosthetic leg severely damaged.
She had no insurance so instead of getting a new leg, the people that work on prosthetics tried to repair the leg, however it didn't fit correctly, gave him a blister that became infected and turned into a staph infection. He is now working on getting a new leg, his insurance covers 80% of that leg, which costs around $49,000 and we were trying to raise money to cover the extra $8,000. On top of all that he has other medical issues, however this man does not complain. He was the man responsible for the Toy Run we had last week and is still working at Full Throttle. Pee Wee is always giving back to the community so the community gave back to Pee Wee.. How much did we raise to go towards Pee Wee's new leg? About 2,500! Pee Wee and his son in law told me this story yesterday as we were leaving. I knew some of it, but I would rather hear things directly, not third person.
There were 4 men at the Iron Horse yesterday with only 1 leg including Pee Wee. I don't know if they all lost legs in bike accidents, I had never seen 2 of them before. One man had a great attitude and he was right there with Pee Wee when Pee Wee got done explaining to the crowd about the new leg and the process behind it.
It was a beautiful December day too..
The chrome was just sparkling in the sun..
I honestly think this guy was working on his tan..
And I couldn't get enough of this little guy on his mini Harley.
At the end of the day his dad put the mini Harley (Actually a modified Razor scooter) on the back of his bike and they rode off.
Big Engine had a great time, they really enjoy what they do and it shows! If you hear they are in your area, go check them out. I think you'll enjoy them, their music (classic rock) and the energy they bring with them.
