Explore:   What's happening in your neck of the woods?

Cold, dark and vacant OR warm, cozy and inviting.... Which would you choose?

Imagine you are out looking for a home and it's mid-December. A crisp chill is in the air and it feels a little like snow. Maybe you don't have to imagine it, maybe you really are looking for a nice new home! Many buyers need to find that perfect home to move into early next year.

So, you're a little chilly, and from walking around the outside of the house. You'd like to get the feeling back into your toes by walking into a nice warm home. Then you realize it... the house you are looking at is vacant. Not only is it vacant, but the sellers have turned down the heat. There is no chance at chasing away the frost that is in your bones. The house is completely dark, and the flashlight is allowing a limited ability to see anything that the home has to offer. Lookingat the house instills fear about going down into the basement because it's dark and damp. All you want to do is get out of there and move on.

Next stop, the house down the street! There is clearly a difference from the second you walk in. You are completely warmed from head to toe. There is a crisp fire burning in the fireplace and a gentle sound of music filtering through the air. The smell of a fresh baked apple pie lingers in the kitchen. Every room has three lights brightly displaying the beauty that this house has tucked away in every corner. The bathrooms sparkle. The kitchen has everything you need to make great memories that will last a lifetime. You can imagine relaxing by the fireplace on nights much like tonight with your family. The house is perfect and will make a lovely home anyone.

The second one is the one my buyers chose. They are so happy to think that they will raise their baby coming in March and grow their family in this beautiful home. The home was so inviting and made them FEEL wonderful. When looking at the houses later, we realized that they are both the same model. One is loved and cared for, and sparkling clean... and the other was neglected. So, if you are trying to sell, make EVERY effort to make your home invite the buyers in from the cold AND make them want to stay!

Andy~

Most people don't realize that buying a house is mostly about feelings and emotions. Thanks for commenting!

It's so true - a home is, indeed, about feelings, about warmth, about comfort.  The house for sale always tells a story, and it should be a happy one.

Tricia~ Thanks, I don't think some sellers realize the story that theirs tells when it's not up to par for showing. It's really great when a buyer finds the perfect home, and it's so easy to see why they select the one they do!!
