Don't you just hate it when a good couch goes bad?
OK I understand that prospective homeowners are not purchasing the couch but, if this is the kind of care they take of their furniture then what have the been doing with the house? Has the home been shown the same kind of neglect?
It is so easy to update the look of furniture with slip covers. I purchased this Sure Fit slip cover at Bed Bath and Beyond with my 20% off it came to about $85.* Toss on some throw pillows and a few accessories and this couch is good to go!
Why not give your couch and your listing a face lift today? It just may make the difference in the buyers mind.

*This extreme couch makeover was part of a massive rehab of the home - it involved painting, replacing light fixtures, ripping up carpet and refinishing the floors. It was a big job. ~ More pics to come.

Hi Maureen, I always look forward to your posts! Do these slip covers fit almost any couch? Every time I start to purchase one, I think I never have enough information. Do you need to know the exact sofa size?

Wish you a Merry Christmas and best wishes for a great year in 2008.

Kim - These particular ones could not be easier, it took me less than 5 minutes to put it on. They are made with a stretch fabric - almost like a bathing suit. They will pretty much fit any sofa. The only thing you need to know is the type of cushion - they come in standard and T-cushion.
Here are the links:
Standard and T-Cushion.
it is amazing what slipcovers can do for a room, isn't it?
Such simple things can make such a difference. We need every edge in this market.
Wow Maureen, That is a slip cover? I never saw one fit so well! Great job! Merry Christmas!
Ginger
Maureen, I swear I have that same old sofa in my den...with a slipcover on it! :)
Maureen ~ What a difference! I don't know why I'm always surprised when I see pictures like this; I think these particular Surefit slipcovers are great. Sounds like you got a great price too.
WOW, what a difference, it made all the difference in the world. I usually don't like slip covers, but this one I had to look twice to make sure that it was indeed a cover. You did a great job.
Hi Maureen, all I can say is "yikes!". Bad memories of my aunt's couch back in the 70's.
Hello Maureen, It doesn't even look like a slip cover. Nice choice.
Great transformation. Sure Fit covers really do fit! I am ready to try them after seeing this post. Thanks.
Now these slipcovers you could live with, what a great fit. I have seen surefit before but never ones that fit like this. These are great, I am definitely going to get 2 for the loveseats I use. Heck I may buy some for my own couch.
Looks great,
I love these slipcovers. Until now I've avoided them like the plague...I just can not get them to look good. The only slip cover I've ever had sucess with was when I paid to have one custom made. These new Surefit slipcovers are soooo much cheaper and fit more than one style. Nice!
Maureen, I love these covers as well, just to change the look of the room now and then. I own several and they really look nice.
Hey Guys - I have used these slip covers a bunch of times. Since they are stretchy they really do fit - it doesn't matter what kind of arm or back the couch has they always look great. I've been told by clients that they stay put also. You really can't go wrong with them.
Maureen, trying one out tomorrow. Love the color of yours. My BBB selection for loveseats WITH the T-cushion was very limited but I can't wait to see how it works.
BTW, Overstock.com has some good deals on these IF you have the time to wait for delivery or you plan ahead.
Also Target has something very similar but only for sofas and chairs , not loveseats. But the prices are better than BBB. At Target I paid $79 (+tax) for the sofa size. Now I just need an old sofa. :-)
Maureen,
Surefit should hire you. These are amazing! I can't wait to try one out.
Susan - You've given me a great idea. I can't believe I hadn't thought of it before. I should start getting corporate sponsors. I could run ads on the side of my blog or put their logo on my van. I hear Tiger Woods makes a killing with his endorsements. This may be the untapped income stream that I have been looking for. I'm going to have to contact the people from Surefit, Real Estate Shows, HSR, Shutterfly and all the other companies I constantly recommend.
THIS COULD BE IT!!!
Maureen, you must be psychic. Just two days ago, Rosario and I were talking about having a couch and loveseat re-upholstered. I guess this is a sign that we should just do it. The new looks great and makes a hugh difference.
Thanks for a great tip. Big change from a small investment.
I am amazed -- great before and after demo. I'll give it a try . . .
Hey Maureen this and the fact that you could do web design for home stagers could totally boost your income without EVER leaving your home, now consider this venture quite seriously girlfriend but when you make it to the top, please remember your buds on AR
Phyllis Pafumi
Great call with the slip cover! It instantly updates the couch, making it look sleek and stylish!
Amazing. Little cost, little effort - great results!
OK, now I'm convinced -- I'll give Surefit covers a try! The fit on this one is fantastic.
Maureen, all i could say was wow! That made a difference
Maureen- You've convinced me to try slipcovers again! I think the fact that these new ones are stretchy might mean that even I can do it!!! And I totally agree with your connecting the condition of the furniture with the condition of the home!!! Nice job!
Phyllis - this is sounding better and better. No schlepping furniture, plants or artwork, no climbing around in people's houses, no driving and eating in the car. I think I'll love it.
So anyone that wants to be a corporate sponsor please contact me immediately.
Maureen, looks great. You have given me hope for the pink and yellow sofa we have. lol
Tanya, I was thinking the same thing! Great minds think alike! lol
Maureen - That is such a great idea. Instead of throwing out the old coach give it a second chance with a new cover. I know what you mean about sprucing up a listing, it can really makes a difference.
Nice post and good illustration.
Maureen,
Looks great. Do you purchase and keep several on hand or is that a cost you bill back to the home seller?
Sandra - I purchase them one at a time. I don't keep any in stock - I like to pick the colors specific for each job.
Hello Maureen ~
The original sofa was somewhat scarey ... it was nearly impossible to see past the fabric and condition. The new cover completely transforms it into stylish and inviting.
It is a good example of just what can be accomplished with staging: help the average home buyer see past owner's decorating taste and clutter to what the actual potential of the home might be?
As always, well done Maureen!
Cindy

Maureen,
How do you get all the wrinkles out? I have used sure fit before and the wrinkles drive me crazy. I have a steamer, but it is not a quick process. Is there an easier way? I want mine to look awesome like yours. maria
Maria - there are tons of wrinkles in that couch. It almost has a crushed velvet look. I sprayed it with Downey wrinkle release - in a day or so all the wrinkles were gone.
