Peachtree Street Car Comes To Midtown?
What will it look like? Atlanta's system will be modeled after the Portland Oregon street car, pictured here. It would be a system that you just walk on and off (platforms will be built so there is no step up into the car) and will be on rails laid in the street, with just one wire overhead. The cars are proposed to hold a max of 120 people and would run every 5-10 minutes along a route from 16th Street in Midtown to Downtown, with a connection to an East/West route around the downtown area.
The next two public meetings will be: Wednesday, January 16, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 6-8 p.m. If you live in the Midtown area, basically from I-75 to Juniper Street, and from Brookwood to North Avenue, you could be impacted by the proposed funding structure. Likewise, if you are a business owner, you would be impacted as well. Take time to attend one of these public meetings and learn more about the Peachtree Street Car! |
