Winter Tourism Up in WNC

The mountains of Western NC have seen some cold temperatures and a bit of snow, but a big blast of winter has yet to arrive. The lack of a good snowfall has not stopped the winter tourism industry in the area. According the latest edition of the Smoky Mountain News winter tourism to the area is up this season. Hotel/Motel owners are reporting occupancy increases over previous years. No doubt the local ski area, Cataloochee has played a key role in bring people to the area. Other activities that are bringing visitors to the area include the Great Smoky Railroad in Dillsboro/Bryson City and their version of the "Polar Express" train ride, tubing at Tony's Tube World, winter hiking and cross country skiing, and sledding at the entrance of the Blue Ridge Parkway. For those who want to stay indoors, can take a visit to Harrahs Cherokee Casino.

If you have not visited our area during the winter months I highly suggest you make a trip soon. You may want to keep an eye on the weather forecast and you may just catch some snowflakes during your visit.
