Eminent Domain Makes My Blood Boil!

I just read in the local paper about a developer who has been trying to buy some land from another owner in order to put a new road and develop several commercial lots. The problem is, the developer has been unsuccessful in acquiring the land and is now asking the city for help. Basically, the land owner doesn't want to sell.

The article stated the developer is seeking the city's help to take the desired land by eminent domain. In return for the city's help, the developer would reimburse the city almost $3,000 for their help and contribute $20,000 for street lights and road improvements.

Does the city just see dollars signs and potential income for the community from added business revenue? Is it fair to make an owner of property relinquish his land to benefit the developer who I'm sure will make quite a profit from his plans?

The article was pretty vague, but just to think that an individual or developer could request the city's help and make a monetary contribution for their help, to take someone's property from them, makes my blood boil!

It makes my blood boil also.  I can't believe that this could happen here. It is suppose to be only if it benefits the community as a whole not for an individual's profit.  Keep us informed as to the out come.  Thanks for the information.
