I am so tired of listening to the media spreading their doom and gloom. It is as if they really want us all to fail. I work for a local Remax office and our office is bustling. We are getting leads from people still wanting to move to Florida from all over the country.
I read in the paper this morning that we are getting a new Kohl's and in fact quite a few stores including a bookstore. We are possibly getting a Super Target. Companies do not move into dying areas! Hernando County is alive and well and Florida is still a place where people would like to live.
We have an election coming up on January 29 for the Presidential elections but also there is an Amendment to help with the property taxes. It is not my first choice on how to handle it but its a first step. If passed, it will allow homeowners to carry their current tax bill with them instead of having a much larger bill if they buy a new home. This will hopefully stimulate buying.
People coming from the north aren't to shocked or upset by our taxes as they were paying much more. The weather is in the 70's today and no sign of snow!
So when you hear the doom and gloom that Florida is sinking into the sunset, don't listen to them. Hernando County (north of Tampa) is alive and well and we intend to stay that way.

Bonnie - It is no surprise to me that the Spring Hill/Brooksville/Ridge Manor/Weeki Wachee areas are doing well. I used to work in that area and it was growing leaps and bounds even then - and that was almost 20 years ago. I'm sure if I went down there I would get lost now! Even that stretch up into Citrus county is set to expand from what I hear. I wish you much success. It's a unique area of Florida - that's for sure.
Carol: You are right - the stretch along U.S. 19 to Citrus County is really growing. We have beautiful gated communities there and new stores going in. Real estate companies are opening offices in the area as well. There is business to be had. My business partner and I sit in a builders model in Citrus. The deals are incredible.
You are in Toledo. I lived in Ann Arbor for 3 years and would drive to Toledo to go to Stein Mart. I guess its a bit cold where you are. Come visit anytime. Our ReMax office is great. Our broker is wonderful and everyone is doing well.

May I ask what brought you to that area?
Ardell - who is your question intended for? LOL I am thinking it's for Bonnie?
Ardell: Do you mean Spring Hill? My husband was and still is working for a company in Michigan. We were living in in Ann Arbor. There were some things happening in his company that made him feel very vulnerable. We decided we needed a Plan B. We had friends who live in Spring Hill. We called them and spoke with them about the area, housing, etc. We came down and visited for several days and found the perfect house. We wanted a 3/2/2 with a fenced yard, tile or wood and very little carpet since we have 2 very large dogs. Long story short we bought the house that weekend, I moved here the following year and my husband the year after. He didn't lose his job as he thought and is still working but commutes to Michigan every month for a meeting and still travels but does it from Florida. Was that what you meant?
