As you get dressed for work today, remember that Friday February 1, 2008 is National Wear Red Day.
Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association's nationwide campaign to wipe out heart disease, the #1 killer of women.
One in three women gets heart disease, according to their website. I have no doubt that I'm very much at risk, so this really caught my attention. The goal of Go Red For Women is a 25% reduction in coronary heart disease and stroke risk by the year 2010.
I learned about National Wear Red Day at Macy's in Annapolis Mall when I saw a sign indicating that shoppers wearing RED on Friday, February 1, will get an extra 15% off their purchases of apparel and accessories.
Geoffrey Beene, like Macy's, is supporting the Go Red For Women movement by donating 10% of the price you pay for men's dress shirts, cuff-links or neckwear purchases throughout February. And Brighton will donate $5 from the sale of each Go Red For Women bracelet sold from January 12, 2008 to February 15, 2008 and asked retailers to match that donation. Campbell Soup, Clairol, Hamilton Beach, Pepperidge Farm and several other businesses also have promotions supporting Go Red For Women in February.
What can YOU do to protect yourself from this killer? Continue reading to find a few suggestions from the American Heart Association.
I joined GO RED FOR WOMEN today, and I hope you will too!

OK Margaret,
You took my idea for today's post! LOL. I always turn on "Good Morning America" and when I heard them talking about " Red Day", the light bulb came on. Oh well, you snooze, you loose (though I have not been snoozing!).
Have a great weekend. Are you getting freezing rain/sleet?
If you want to write on this topic, Cynthia, I'll be happy to delete it. I don't like to duplicate from my outside blog, but I didn't see anything here on AR.
Good idea, Margaret. I'll wear red today. It's my favorite color plus such a great cause.
I had no idea, thank you for bringing this to my attention! I will share the word about RED today!!
Mrgaret,
Also red on Friday is for support of all our troops!!! Thanks, Fran
P.S. Post these clothing suggestions earlier...I wake up at 5:30!!!
I hadn't realized this either but would be more than happy to comply.
This is an important subject! Many cancers and diseases are on the decline because of early detection and education. People must understand how to prevent!
I guess I need to run home and change and hit Macy's!
Thank you, Margaret! Will do, and like James, I'm hitting Macy's later. Thank you to them, too.
Thanks for posting Margaret. I have my red on!
Margaret, I have my red on. I am glad they remind us on TV, because it is an extremely important cause
Missy, I have a lot of red in my closet, so I wear it often
Candace, I expected to see this all over AR, and didn't post it here 'til this morning. 'Hope there's still time to participate.
Fran, if you subscribed to www.FocusOnCrofton.com, you would have gotten this information last night. lol. hint, hint.
Latonia, Great cause!
James, I went to Macy's yesterday and considered not buying anything 'til today...
Elaine, I can't go again today, so buy something on my behalf!
Linda, Great cause!
Karen, 'Didn't see it, but reminders are good.
Yippy, I did remember to wear my red today. Thanks for sharing this important date with us all.
Karen - Thanks for your comment. Glad you remembered!
FYI - I'm going out of town for several days and will not have access to a computer. Please forgive me for doing a disappearing act and not acknowledging or reciprocating any comments after this 'til I get back.
Margaret, our Realtor office put out a notice on this and we participated. Thanks for the alert.
Margaret,
How sweet of you to offer, but no....it's your post. :0) Enjoy your time away.
Margaret -- hope you enjoy your time away -- I wore red all week -- It is an important issue and I think women and hear disease has been neglected.
Rats! I wear red almost every day! I should have gone to Macy's on February 1st! But seriously, Margaret, like you, I am probably at risk for a heart attack, and in December, I lost my best friend to a stroke. So this in no laughing matter. Thanks for the post.
