Authorities were called to investigate the smell coming from a condo in the CityWalk Condominiums in downtown Bradenton Florida. What they found was 128 total cats and hamsters crammed into an 817 square-foot condo covered in feces, urine and maggots.
The officer who entered the door was forced to retreat from the smell of cat urine. Overflowing litter boxes were everywhere and there was no food or water for the pets. Animal Services pulled 27 cats and 101 hamsters from the home.
The animals are in such bad shape that they will have to be euthanized. Officials quickly tagged the condo as "uninhabitable" for humans because of the feces, maggots and fleas.
It makes you wonder, "What was the owner thinking?" She works as a teacher's aide in a local elementary school. Imagine that. She's helping with our children's education.

Absolutely amazing-makes you wonder how a human could live among such as that. And to think they are in education.
Good lord! It's really too bad they had to put the little guys down. There have been a few stories like that around here, and volunteer groups work with the pets to get them better and into good homes. The woman who owns the condo must be in pretty bad shape herself.
Somtimes you just don't know what kind of people are teaching our kids. That's an amazingly disgusting situation.
Dan~This truly is disheartening and the numbers in one small area is astounding. This teacher must have a horrible illness to do something so out of the ordinary, she'll be one of those that shows up on Animal Planet (my hubby watches that channel all the time).
Dan - This is a terrible news item, and it saddens me that they will have to euthanize the animals. As Julie mentioned, this woman is likely mentally ill, and she will probably lose her job when the school gets wind of the situation. That may just make things worse for her, and she could end up completely homeless unless she has family to care for her. Sorry to be even more of a bummer!
What was she thinking!!!?? Amazing. Although.... even more amazing is that there 27 hungry cats in the house..... but 101 hamsters survived!!
Hi Dan, what a shame that stuff goes on like this. I can't understand how anyone could live like that.
Sometimes I am embarrassed to be a human being. That is just wrong.
Debra - It is amazing isn't it.
Patricia - The animals were in such sad shape they had to put them down.
Al - No wonder our schools are in such bad shape.
Julie - She will probably get no help at all.
Jason - I doubt the school board will take any action.
Martin - Hamsters are survivors, I guess.
Keith - You cant make up this kind of stuff.
Kevin - Don't be too hard on yourself...unless you have 100 cats (LOL)
These "animal horders" have a pathological condition. It's a severe illness. They need to be confined in a mental institution for their own safety and the safety of the animals that they horde. But, we don't do that any more do we?? We're to humane to confine a mentally ill person. We just let them out among the children and animals they horde.
Nothing will happen to her Dan. They won't fine her and they won't lock her up and her family won't commit her. Now for the part that will not make me popular. If you have more than five cats, go check yourself into an psyche ward for a few days please. :)
Lenn - How do you REALLY feel about that. The crazies are loose among us.
Simon - Now you are going to be called a "Cat Hater."
I heard about this on the news - it is horrible!
Barbara-Jo - Everyone once in a while something like this pops up. AMazing.
