NV, LAS VEGAS: BITS AND PIECES

sun

The sun is shining in Las Vegas for the first time in it seems like forever! It's a gorgeous day, with the temperature predicted to be at 66 by 5 p.m. Doors and windows are open bringing some of the beautiful weather into houses that have been closed up for weeks (months?). Everyone waits eagerly for Mohave Max to show his face.

Who is Mohave Max you say? The deserts own version of Punxsutawney Phil, Mohave Max is a live tortoise who lives in the Red Rock National Conservation Area in Clark County. He represents all of the wild desert tortoises found in the Mojave Desert. Mohave Max goes into hibernation every winter. He then comes out of hibernation as the days get longer and the weather gets warmer. His emergence from hibernation (usually between mid-February and mid-April) is a sure sign the weather is warming up. Learn all about Mohave Max by going to his official website.

Events you won't want to miss if you will be in Las Vegas are:

The Monte Carlo Resort and Casino will be reopening on this Friday, February 14th. The hotel was closed after a fire did damage to the top three floors on January 25th.

Showing at the Mirage is the Cirque production of "LOVE" - featuring the Beatles music by producers (father and son), George and Giles Martin. There are two shows nightly Thursdays through Mondays at 7 and 10 p.m. Additional shows at 7 and 10 p.m. this Wednesday, February 13th; Tickets range in price from $137.50-$165. "LOVE" cast members will be performing at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 10th.
