Well, the forms came this week, and I had to tell my 6 year old son that he may not be able to be on the Red Sox again. Last year was his first year playing little league t-ball and he was on the Red Sox. I think it made him a lifelong Red Sox fan.
But, when he found out he may have to be on another team, he got a little depressed. However, he still has been practicing in our backyard ever since the day the announcement came that it is time to sign up for spring league.
I played baseball until mid junior high, when the coaches decided that throwing side arm wasn't good, and they cut me when they couldn't break me of the habit. So, I took up running. I am happy to say I had some success at that and I got to run in 3 countries because of it.
But, I'm starting my son out on the right foot. I'm teaching him to throw correctly and also having him practice his batting in the backyard. I'm looking forward to that first practice and game... seeing all the little leaguers who are imagining themselves in the big leagues, in their tiny little uniforms.

As much as I love baseball...I detest t-ball...it's like babysitting with coaches around...t-ball coaches should be paid!!! Thanks, Fran
Fran, lucky for me this year he isn't t-ball, but I somewhat agree.
But, it does at least get the kids excited to play the game. We do coach pitch for 5 pitches and the a tee. So it gives them a chance to hit without a tee, but sometimes they just need it and after 5 pitches it is a good time.

I am sure he will have a great time playing and I agree with you 100% that t-ball gets the youngsters excited about baseball. The life lessons that baseball teaches comes later but last for a lifetime.
Todd, those are best times arent they. I coached my son for 8 years. Love 7 1/2 of them.
Todd, what a great post. But, on the side arm thing, your coaches need not figure out how to correct it but how to control it. Throwing is not a natural function to the arm at all. Hence why there are so many people having Tommy Johns surgery.
Tom - I think he is ready, he hasn't taken his baseball cap off since we told him it was baseball season again!
Nicholas - Knowing me I will be on the field with him as a coach!
Rich - I agree totally, win or lose you can have fun!
Rob - This will be my 4 year straight as a coach for either my son or daughters team. (Absolutely love it, keep saying I won't do it again, but the parents keep begging me to do it again and I keep saying yes)
Danny - It has been 23 years, so a little late on the coaches doing anything for me.
Todd - I'm sure Nat will have a great baseball season this year, no matter what the name of his team is.

Sounds like a proud Dad is spending some quality time with his son. I believe team sports help build confidence and promote good sportsmanship (as long as the parents behave!). Just make sure he is having fun!

Cynthia - As a coach and and umpire, I have had parents escorted away from the field for not being supportive. Baseball is there to teach about winning & losing, but also about learning to play as a team to get the result you want. If you lose, big deal, you learn what you need to do next time to win.
