Professional Hockey in North Carolina? You're kidding me right?

You betcha!  Ever since our very own Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup in the 2005-2006 season beating the Edmonton Oilers it has been Hurricane fever here in the Triangle.  Most of you know I'm a tennis player and a runner so I haven't really spent a lot of time writing about our Hurricanes.  I have had several families relocating to the area that didn't even know that the Hurricanes play out of Raleigh!! It's time to get the word out and give our wonderful team some credit.  

So, how did the Hurricanes end up in the Triangle anyway?  Originally the Hurricanes hometown was in Hartford, Connecticut and the team was known as the Hartford Whalers.  In 1998 the team moved to Raleigh.  The team progressed with the leadership of the infomous Ron Francis, now retired.

In order for me to tell you about how wonderful the Hurricanes are I relied on a great asset in my office - Our receptionist/secretary Nancy Heintz.  If I want to know about the latest and greatest related to the Hurricanes I rely on Nancy. That said, I learned quite a bit from my interview with Nancy today.

I learned a lot from Nancy about Hockey today and forgive me if this is rudementary for you.  I understand other sports in great depth but am intrigued about learning about new adventures.  The bottom line - The Canes are Winning & Winning Big. 

Come on - They are in 1st place in their division and currently have a spot in this seasons playoffs. However, the division is tight. Washington Capitals are on the Canes heels w/only 5 points behind them. And the worst part- they have 2 more games to catch up to the Hurricanes.  The bottom line - It's so tight between the top 5 teams it could be down to the last game.  What great drama is that and all here in the Triangle!!!

How do the Divisions work? 

There are 3 Separate Divisions that make up the Eastern Division with a total of 15 teams.  And, 3 Separate Divisions w/15 teams making up the Western Division.   Just for the record - RBC Center is the loudest arena in Hockey and we like to party.  The Hurricanes are big for tailgating. 

More updates regarding insider info from my team guru Nancy: 

• Justin Williams has been out with an injury - could be back earlier.
• Rod Brind'Amour,  team Captain, will be out the rest of the season w/an injury
• Stillman & Commander (red hed) traded for two players from Ottawa.
• 2 players from chicago are playing well.  Lots of injuries - brought up players from farm team in Albany, New York.
• Ray Wittney went off the ice last night - could be reinjured.

Don't get me wrong - I love to watch the Hurricanes play at the RBC Center.  It's a bit cold so I try to wear lots of warm clothes.  Hopefully, someday, I will have the passion that my dear secretary Nancy has at the office. 

Nancy will be retiring next month so Iwanted to make sure I talked with her before she moves on to bigger and better things.  This post is dedicated to her and the Hurricanes!!
