You’re two weeks away from your moving day and a few more check marks away to completing your checklist for the big day. Smile and take a deep breath because there is light at the end of the tunnel box and with great planning and follow through you will find yourself in your new home unpacking with much comfort and a great peace of mind.
In part 1 we covered Preparing For Our Move…1 Month Away to the Big Day (Part 1), which included everything from reservations to prescriptions. With your moving date approaching at a fast pace there is no time to waste and Part 2 will help you complete those final steps.
Confirm
Call or go online to confirm travel, moving company, transportation, storage and hotels to make sure everything is set for your departure.
Arrangements for Moving Day
Contact family and friends to arrange for them to assist you with moving.
Laundry
Keep up on your laundry to assure that everything is clean and ready to go in the move.
Utilities
Contact your power, heat, telephone, cable, water, sewer and garbage to arrange for disconnect or transfer of
utilities.
Bank Accounts
Contact your employer and have your direct deposit changed over to your new financial institution in Utah. Close out your existing accounts through your financial institution. Shred any leftover checks and make sure that there aren’t any debits or checks still outstanding. Close out your safe deposit box and purchase a portable safety box to store these items in for your travels. The safety box is also a great place for you to store the discs or gig sticks that you have made with all the copies of your documents.
For the Travel
Make travel boxes for your children, pets and for yourself to include a water bottle, reading material, snacks and a first aid kit with prescriptions. Also include your camera, map and pen & paper.
Final Shopping Trip
Create a shopping list and make one final trip to pick up any items you may need for your travels.
Cleaning the House
1 week prior to moving start cleaning out cupboards, closets, drawers and cabinets. Prepare for a good thorough cleaning day.
Communication
Email family and friends with your travel route, providing them with a map and the phone numbers to each stop for short term stay.
