Clermont State Park, Columbia County New York

VEIW OF CLERMONT HUDSON RIVER AND CATSKILLS MOUNTAIN

VIEW OF THE FRONT OF HOUSE

Clermont is the oldest Hudson River Estate in the Mid Hudson Valley. This was the home of the Livingston family from 1728-1962.

The First owner was Robert Livingston, a land aristocrat and statesman. He was also instrumental in the steam boat venture in the area, partnered with Robert Fulton, and had a successful stream boat run from New York to Albany with "The Steam Boat"

The grounds feature beautiful gardens. One known as the Lilac Walk was planted in 1820 by Edward P. Livingston, who was an officer in the horticultural society of the Hudson valley.

Because the Livingston family supported independence the British burned Clermont to the ground in 1777. It was rebuilt, but again it was destroyed by fire in 1909. Today, there are still remnants of that structure.

This estate consisted of 13,000 acres along the Hudson River. Everything you can see from the estate, including views across the river in Ulster County, was owned by the Livingston family. Can you imagine how much that would be worth today? There are also spectacular views of the Catskill Mountains. This is such a scenic property and is enjoyed in all seasons. Because of the beautiful setting it is also a popular wedding destination.

So come visit the Mid Hudson Valley you will not be disappointed.

Ray,

This is a really beautiful spot.  In the summer you can sit and watch the boats go by.  My favorite time is the fall, the foliage from this vantage is rather spectacular.  Thanks for stopping by.

Jennifer, that does look like a great place to have a wedding, especially for the wedding pictures.

No plans to visit soon, just wondering if people there commute to NYC for work.  If I have any buyers/sellers from up there I will let you know.
