A bottle of white, a bottle of red

Virginia WineriesAre you an Oenophile? You'd know it if you were. That's just a fancy word for a wine lover.

If you're moving to Virginia, you are in luck. Over 130 wineries operate throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, and most are open for tours and tastings. You might think about California when you hear American wine, but now it's time to think about Virginia too -- just one more facet that confirms that Virginia is For Lovers. What's more romantic than heading out with your loved one to a beautiful winery and sampling some fine treats of the vine?

Follow these links to learn more about some of the wineries within a 60-90 minute drive from Washington D.C.:

BREAUX VINEYARDS CHRYSALIS VINEYARDS LINDEN VINEYARDS OASIS WINERY

Very cool, Brian. I used them too. Love this post, how creative. Love red and white wine too and it makes such a great closing gift. We have a place here where I can actually make the wine and they label it.

Thanks for sharing a great marketing idea. Good post for localism as well.

Wow - I never knew that about Virginia!  It makes me want to take a trip out there myself!

That is a new word for me-- learn something new every day- neat idea on the wine.

I love VA wine!  We have a wine festival every year that I LOVE going to! Unfortunately...I am craving a good glass of red wine right now and I can't have one for at least 4 more months.

Brian,

Where do you draw the line between bribery and extortion!!! LOL Thanks,   Fran

Brian- I love Wine so your title caught my attention. I use to live 5 minutes from Napa Valley (those were the days). I probably need to get out and try some more Virginia Wine. What winery is your favorite?

Hey, that's cool.. and will think about using that for clients. Other than I didn't know that word....uh, maybe it's because I don't drink lol!

Brian,  Tarara is a great winery and it is a pleasant drive - there reds are exceptionally good,  Karen

Brian,

Your own wine?  That's great - also note that conforming and FHA loan amounts in your area for single family dwellings have increased to $729,750!  Happy selling.

Brian, A well composed post.  As I said to Gary Varnerchuk (the thunder-show), I have not even seen NY wine in California.  In this case, I have not seen Virginia wines.  It might be nice to have a wine tasting with wines across the nation.  AJ

I love Virginia wineries!  There are all so unique and so many have that down home Virginia hospitality!  One of my personal favorites is Blacksnake Meadery about 30 minutes west of Floyd.  Good folks who enjoy sipping with you on their own front porch!

When my daughter lived in the area, she sometimes worked at one of the wine festivals and had a ball doing it.  This is a great post, Brian - I hope you're going to tweak it for the Military Relocation Contest!

Brian - Where's the Champagne??

Hi Brian - I was drawn in by your title. It's the opening line to Billy Joel's Scenes from an Italian Restaurant. A good friend of mine was a sommelier, so I'll see what he can tell me about Virginia vino.

MISSY:  I agree that wine makes a very classy closing gift.  Sometimes I'll have the white wine chilling in the fridge of the new kitchen before we head over for the final walkthrough before settlement.  Making your own wine -- now that's pretty neat.

GITA:  Thanks for your comment and glad that you enjoyed the post.

JONELLE:  I don't think that Virginia wines are heavily promoted outside the state, but many of them are quite good.  A trip to the wineries always makes for a fun and relaxing day.

DEBRA:  So would you classify yourself as an oenophile?

NAOMA:  I love the Virginia wines too.  How's the pregnancy coming along?

FRAN:  Funny!

DANA:  Thanks for your comment.  Linden, Tarara and Rappahonnock all have some really great wines and nice wineries to visit.

SALLY: Bottles of wine always seem to be very well received by my clients.

Brian I love the marketing. They certainly will not forget you unless of course they like the wine too much :)

KAREN:  I agree.  I try to take a drive to the wineries at least once a year.  You can feel the stress leave your body once you get a bit further away from D.C. and into the Virginia wine country.

ZACH:  Those new conforming loan amounts should be quite a boost to business.

ALAN: Let me know when you organize that tasting!

TINA:  Thanks for your comments.  I do enjoy the Virginia hospitality as well.  You don't get that big corporate feel when you go visit the locally owned wineries.

MARGARET:  Thanks for your comment.  I'll see what I can do.

DORENE:  Champagne?  I've got some of that too.  Maybe I'll crack open a bottle to celebrate my passing of the Virginia Broker's Exam this week!

JOHN:  Well you are the first one to catch that about the title.  That was the intention even though I didn't mention the song in the post.  I'm a big fan of the Piano Man.

BILL:  Thanks for your humorous comment.

Brian,

Yes indeed Brian.  Just prepare for VERY LONG underwriting with Lenders.  Citimortgage is currently underwriting FHA loans submitted February 13th.  Purchases are obviously getting prioritized and refinances are running aroudn 14 business days.

I love those bottles! A very classy way to say 'thank you' and 'welcome to your new home'!

By the way, I am an oenophile and proud of it!

Brian - this brings back memories of my years in Germany - we would drive around to vineyards to try the wines - ah, memories!

By the way, GREAT marketing idea!!!!

ZACH:  Thanks for following up.

NANCY:  Thanks for your comments.  I hope you are relaxing with a nice glass of wine this evening.

BARBARA JO & BILL:  Wine tastings and driving around the vineyards is great fun.  Even my wife enjoys it and she's not a big wine drinker.

(03/07/08 06:52PM) — Yogesh Karki

Great....didn't realize all these winery is in our own backyard

YOGESH:  Yes, and some really great wines too!

(03/08/08 11:20AM) — Tina Maraj Shah Realtor

Hey Brian, Great post with a nice twist at the end. Which winerey did you order from?

We have some wineries here too.  I actually have grapes growing in my backyard...well not at the moment, but I don't think they'll ever produce!

TINA:  Thanks for your comment.  I ordered my bottles from Windsor Vineyards.  They have a special deal on the personalized labels and their wine is quite nice.

CINDY:  Thanks for your comments.  Having grapes in the backyard is really nice.  My in-laws used to have grapes too until the birds ate them all.

Brian - Very nice post and I love the marketing idea! Very impressive with the nice labels and great wine to boot.

CANDY:  Thanks for your comments and compliments.

Brian, what a great idea for a closing gift. We have so many wineries here in Central Virginia that we try to visit one every month. Thanks for sharing this great marketing idea!

Brian, I didn't know Virginia had so many wineries.  All I remember is the wonderful strawberry fields, wonderful Virginia Beach and the great weather.

DEBBIE:  Thanks for your comment.  Clients seem to really appreciate it.  Visiting wineries is certainly a fun activity.

KAY:  Thanks for your comments about our beautiful state of Virginia.
